Western University of Health Sciences celebrated 92 graduates of the Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP), a six-week course for aspiring health care professionals. WesternU’s Office of Academic Community Engagement (ACE) held a ceremony recognizing the SHPEP graduates in July on the WesternU California campus.

WesternU College of Dental Medicine Dean and lead Principal Investigator Elizabeth Andrews, DDS, MS, addressed the crowd of scholars and family members assembled in person and on Zoom about their future in health care professions.

“The scholars we celebrated today represent the future of health care,” Dean Andrews said. “Over the past six weeks, they have demonstrated extraordinary dedication, resilience, and passion for service. We are proud to have supported their growth through SHPEP and are excited to see the positive impact they will make as future health professionals and leaders in their communities.”

Welcome Week is a time for new Western University of Health Sciences students to meet faculty and staff, learn their way around the WesternU California campus, and form bonds with their classmates.

Students expressed a mixture of excitement, nervousness and anticipation for the journey ahead as they picked up their equipment and learned more about their individual programs and the services and support offered at WesternU during Welcome Week, held Aug. 3-7, 2026. Each college concluded Welcome Week with a white coat ceremony, which symbolically welcomes students into their profession.

A new academic year means new opportunities to learn and grow stronger together. 💙🐾

Earlier last week our DVM Class of 2029 returned to campus. But before diving back into the classroom, they kicked off the newest block with informational sessions and a series of team-building activities that challenged them to think quickly, solve problems on the fly, stay focused, communicate, and work together—all skills they'll continue to use not only in their PBL groups, but throughout veterinary school and beyond. 🧩💡

These activities also encouraged students to reconnect with old friends, helped strengthen existing relationships, and build new connections with classmates they may not have had as much time to get to know. This supporting network will carry them through the challenges and triumphs ahead. Because great veterinarians don't just rely on their knowledge—they rely on each other. ❤️🩺

Day 4 of WesternU Welcome Week on the Pomona, California campus continued the excitement as our newest students in the College of Graduate Nursing MSN-E program and the College of Health Sciences Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MSPAS), and Master of Science in Medical Sciences (MSMS) programs picked up their white coats, equipment, and other tools of the trade.

Each white coat represents the beginning of a remarkable journey dedicated to learning, compassion, and caring for others. We are thrilled to welcome these future health care professionals to the WesternU family and can’t wait to celebrate the next milestone with our upcoming White Coat Ceremonies.

Day 3 of WesternU Welcome Week was another exciting milestone as our newest students in the College of Pharmacy (PharmD) and the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific picked up their white coats, instruments, and other essential tools they’ll use throughout their education.

From white coats to stethoscopes, medical instruments and iPads, these moments represent much more than supplies; they’re symbols of the incredible journey ahead. We’re proud to welcome the next generation of pharmacists and osteopathic physicians as they begin their path to serving patients and transforming health care.
