Today, the University Library’s Special Collections & Archives celebrates the birthday of W.K. Kellogg—entrepreneur, philanthropist, and visionary whose generosity helped shape Cal Poly Pomona.

Kellogg’s passion for Arabian horses led him to establish his ranch in Pomona, which he later gifted to the State of California. That gift became the foundation of the Cal Poly Pomona campus.

The photo shown features W.K. Kellogg with ANTEZ and actress Laura La Plante at the ranch in 1928.

Through photographs, records, and publications, the W.K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Library and University Archives preserve and share the history of the ranch and its renowned breeding program.

Happy birthday, W.K. Kellogg—and thank you for a legacy that continues to inspire.

🐎 Bronco Gives Day 2026 | Preserve Arabian Horse History

The W. K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Library, part of Special Collections and Archives in the Cal Poly Pomona University Library, holds one of the most significant collections documenting the history of the Arabian horse, the Kellogg Ranch, and Cal Poly Pomona’s renowned equine program.

This Bronco Gives Day (March 18, 9 a.m. PT – March 19, 9 p.m. PT), all funds raised will support the digitization of historic films, videotapes, and audio recordings in our collections. Many of these recordings capture horse shows, breeding programs, campus traditions, and the rich equine heritage connected to the Kellogg Ranch.

By digitizing these materials, we can preserve them and make them accessible online for researchers, students, horse enthusiasts, and future generations.

✨ Special Challenge:
For every 5 donors, $10,000 will be unlocked—up to $100,000 thanks to a generous sponsor.

Even a gift of $5 helps unlock the next $10,000 milestone.

"📸🐎 Women’s History Month: Polly Knoll

Polly Knoll (1932–2019) was a pioneering photographer of Arabian horses whose work shaped the visual legacy of the breed for decades. From Midwest farms to Egypt and Scottsdale, her images became iconic in the equine world.

Her papers — 106.5 linear feet of photographs, negatives, and notebooks — is preserved at Cal Poly Pomona’s Special Collections & Archives.

We’re proud to steward her legacy and celebrate her contributions to photography and equine history.

🐎✨ Happy National Arabian Horse Day! ✨🐎

Today we celebrate the beauty, legacy, and enduring impact of the Arabian horse — a tradition that remains an integral part of Cal Poly Pomona’s history and identity.

In honor of the day, we’re sharing a 1927 photograph of Antez at the Los Angeles County Fair. This image comes from a photo album acquired by the W.K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Library this past fall and offers a glimpse into the early years of the Ranch’s involvement with the Fair.

Moments like this not only highlight the elegance of the Arabian horse but also reflect the deep historical connection between Cal Poly Pomona and the LA County Fair — a story we’re continuing to explore.
Stay tuned… this image may just be a preview of more to come. 👀
