Having traveled across Southeast Asia with his family at a young age, Chuong Nguyen sparked a passion for hospitality.

When Nguyen transferred to The Collins College in 2022, he arrived with that same spark — eager to for hands-on experience in the field and connections to industry professionals.

His time working at the student-run the Restaurant at Kellogg Ranch opened his eyes to how dynamic the hospitality industry truly is. That insight, paired with advice from mentors, shaped his path forward. Two years after graduation, he’s still exploring new sectors of hospitality, driven by the same curiosity that led him to Cal Poly Pomona.

James A. Collins Distinguished Professor Wan Yang, Ph.D., and co-authors Patrick Lee and Yao-Chin Wang received the Best Paper Award at The Global Conference on Technology and AI in Hospitality and Tourism (GLOTECH) 2026 in San Diego for their study, “Mindfulness in the Age of AI: When Routine Work Backfires in Hospitality.”

Reina Grunfeld came to The Collins College knowing she loved food, but she didn’t know where that passion could take her.

Through hands-on experience, coursework across hospitality and connections with the Collins College community, Reina discovered new possibilities. Today, she’s beginning her career with Wolfgang Puck Catering in a role she didn’t know to look for when she started college.
