Mia Ly (2026 MSW graduate) has started a new position as a Family Advocate at the Clackamas County Children's Commission and is sharing that there are openings for their free Early Head Start, Head Start, and Home Based programs. While they prioritize Clackamas County families, they consider families in the greater tri-county area as well.

Our friends at the College of Education are inviting you to join them on Friday, August 14, for a special presentation featuring Dr. Temple Grandin, one of the world's most respected voices on autism and animal welfare. The workshop is designed for educators, parents, therapists and caregivers. The College of Education is offering an exclusive $15 discounted ticket rate for all PSU students and employees (standard pre-registration is $64.95).

During the presentation, Dr. Grandin will share practical strategies for supporting autistic individuals with academic work, building effective routines, and navigating everyday challenges. Guided by her belief that there are creative workarounds for every situation, she will discuss actionable paths to finding employment, volunteering, tutoring and test-taking.

SSW Central Oregon Site Coordinator Leah Allen has shared information on how our community here in Portland can help support those being heavily impacted by wildfires in the Warm Springs area. Because the fires there impacting the tribal community have received less public attention than those in other parts of Oregon, your help can make an even bigger difference. Requested items include: - water and no-cook food items - blankets and pillows - basic medical supplies - personal hygiene (soap, socks, washcloths, towels, feminine hygiene items) - pet food and supplies - gift cards/hotel donations - small fans, box fans and filters - N95s and respirators.

The Portland State University School of Social Work is now hiring for the position of Human Services Program Coordinator!

The Human Services Program Coordinator, manages the Human Services Program, which is a fully online program. All courses are delivered asynchronously — no scheduled class meetings, no in-person instruction, and no on-campus presence required for students. The program was intentionally designed this way to remove geographic and scheduling barriers for Oregon’s working adult population. The HS Program Coordinator has the ability to request a remote work agreement due to the online nature of the program with some on campus presence.

The PSU School of Social Work is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Junghee Lee as Interim Dean!

Dr. Lee joined PSU in 2006 as an assistant professor of Social Work after earning both her Ph.D. and Master of Social Work degrees from Arizona State University. Over the past two decades, she has made significant contributions to the School and University through her leadership, interdisciplinary collaborations, and international partnerships.

"As our School navigates several leadership transitions, one of my highest priorities is ensuring continuity, stability, and strong support for our students, faculty, and staff. To provide seamless leadership during this transition, I am pleased to announce that former MSW Program Director Lisa Hawash has agreed to serve as Acting MSW Program Director, and I will serve as Acting PhD Program Director. Both appointments are effective immediately.” — Dr. Junghee Lee
