USM Women & Gender Studies

USM Women & Gender Studies Entering our third decade of transformative teaching at the University of Southern Maine. We’re excited about the opportunity to work with you.

The Women and Gender Studies program (WGS) is now entering its 3rd decade of transformative teaching at the University of Southern Maine. Our faculty is drawn from across the university and includes some of the institution’s most accomplished scholars. Throughout the academic year, the program also offers engaging feminist programming open to the entire campus and surrounding community. This past

October, for instance, we partnered with the USM Theater Department and several campus organizations to present AddVerb Productions "Out and Allied” (theatre pieces by and about LGBTQ youth and their allies). In addition, WGS co-sponsored talks by prominent Native American activists Ssipsis and Isabelle Knockwood. If you are interested in enrolling in a course, are considering becoming a major, or would simply like more information about upcoming programs, please drop us an email at [email protected], give us a call (780-4289), or come by our office on the Portland campus (at 94 Bedford St.).
