Honoring the legacy of Nancy King: PSU Professor and Jazz & Contemporary Voice Area Coordinator Sherry Alves will perform with three PSU alumni, Hannah DiMofetto, Sam McGehee and Zach Connolly, as the Four for King quartet at Portland’s Montavilla Jazz Festival, Saturday, September 5, 4:30 PM.

Alves is completing her dissertation this fall on the life and work of the late jazz vocalist Nancy King. The released and unreleased recordings and archival materials she has uncovered will inform and deepen this special performance celebrating King’s legacy.

This Thursday, August 13, hear CantiamoPDX showcased on All Classical Radio's Thursdays @ Three. PSU faculty member Daniel Mobbs specializes in Bel Canto repertoire and techniques and founded CantiamoPDX as a summer training program dedicated to advancing Bel Canto skills in young people. Mobbs and PSU voice students will bring these beautiful techniques to life during their radio spotlight and on August 13-16 at PSU's Bel Canto Festival in Lincoln Hall.

Celebrate the beauty, elegance and expressive brilliance of Bel Canto Opera at the CantiamoPDX Bel Canto Festival, presented by PSU School of Music & Theater. Participants will discover the fascinating techniques that continue to shape this classical Italian style of singing today. The festival includes two free public masterclasses with Metropolitan Opera singer Daniel Mobbs and conductor and musicologist Will Crutchfield, plus a final concert on Sunday, August 16, where the students of CantiamoPDX bring these beautiful techniques to life through stunning duets by Bel Canto Masters.

All events are open to the public and located in the Lincoln Recital Hall (LH75). The masterclasses are free!

Opening this Thursday, "Deep Water" is a post-apocalyptic fantasy opera that investigates rage, grief, play and persistence in the face of gargantuan, destructive forces. Composed and written by PSU Sonic Arts & Music Production faculty member Caroline Louise Miller, "Deep Water" chronicles Q***r teenage companions Val and Bluejay acting as witnesses and documentarians who find resilience together during the fall of humanity.
