We hope to provide you with the practical information you’re looking for, while also giving you a sense of our values and the unique personality of Maine Law. By design, our Law School is one of the smallest in the country. We take pride in providing the personal attention that few schools can match, a focus on hands-on learning, and a world-class faculty drawn to our incredible setting on the coa

st of the Atlantic Ocean. We believe it’s time to reimagine what a law school can be. This means engaging with communities outside of our building and outside our comfort zones. It means renewing our commitment to public service, and standing up for justice, rather than watching from a safe distance. It means collaborating with other institutions of higher education, industry, and non-profit organizations to help solve complex problems, from economic development in rural Maine, to civil rights in developing nations. It’s a vision that calls on us to break down old barriers. This expansive approach to legal education is connecting Maine Law to new public and private partners throughout Maine, New England, and beyond. For our graduates, it’s an approach that translates into more opportunities. From the moment of enrollment, we focus on developing your pathways to employment. You will have access to one-on-one support from faculty, staff, and mentors throughout your time at Maine Law, and the backing of a strong alumni network for the duration of your career. And you will practice socially responsible entrepreneurism as well as lawyering, with the resulting goal of obtaining the tools you need to be leaders in the legal profession, in public or non-governmental organizations, in private industry, in pursuit of the public interest, or any other field of your choosing. Maine is the ideal place for our brand of personalized legal education. Portland offers the culture, entertainment, and economic activity of a larger city, while keeping its small city feel. The surprising diversity reflects the changing face of Maine and the nation. Portland is home to a vibrant and growing multicultural population. We invite you to contact us or come for a visit. Explore Portland. See what makes Maine Law dynamic. We look forward to welcoming you.

For Alexandra Logan ’26, privacy law was never just about compliance checklists or technical regulations. It was about navigating a legal landscape that is constantly shifting. From risk management work at Unum to cybersecurity and data privacy matters at Cooley LLP and the antitrust division of the U.S. Department of Justice, each step pulled her deeper into a field where law, technology, and business increasingly collide.

At Maine Law, Logan found the chance to bring all of those interests together through coursework, leadership with the Student Journal of Information Privacy Law, and an externship with IDEXX Laboratories. Along the way, she discovered what many students say makes Maine Law different: “It sounds silly to say it’s the vibe,” Logan said with a laugh. “But honestly, we have something very special up here — something unique to Maine Law.”

At Maine Law, experiential learning helps students discover how they can use the law to serve their communities. For graduating 3L Jacob Stern, that journey was shaped by years of community organizing, hands-on clinical work, and a commitment to helping people navigate difficult moments with dignity and support.

While balancing law school, clinic work, and raising a newborn son, Stern found clarity about the kind of lawyer he hopes to become. After graduation, he will join Drummond Woodsum as an associate, continuing work connected to the public service and advocacy values that first drew him to Maine Law.

When Natalie Jump ’26 came to Maine Law, she thought her future was firmly rooted in environmental policy. But through experiences like the Rural Practice Clinic in Fort Kent, work with the Maine Law Review, and courtroom advocacy opportunities, she discovered a much broader vision of what it means to practice law.

“You get this sense that the law is known and predictable, but people are not,” Jump said. “That’s where the complexity of practicing lies.” After graduation, Jump will clerk at the Kennebec County Superior Court before joining Perkins Thompson as an associate.

Every year, we have the pleasure of highlighting a few members of Maine Law’s graduating class. The truth is, every single graduate has a story worth telling, and we wish we could share them all. One thing is certain: keep your eye on Maine Law graduates. They go on to do remarkable things across Maine, throughout the country, and even on the international stage.

For Ryan Morse ’26, Maine Law became a place to chart his own path. What began as an interest in trust taxation and transactional work evolved into a passion for bankruptcy law, shaped by hands-on experiences including an externship with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maine and participation in the inaugural semester of the Business & Law Clinic.

Along the way, Morse discovered not only a new professional direction but also the importance of mentorship, community, and understanding the people behind every legal issue.

“At Maine Law, you just have to ask, and you will receive,” he said.

After graduation, Morse will clerk with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court before joining Murray, Plumb & Murray in Portland.

Rural communities face some of Maine’s most pressing legal challenges, from attorney shortages to barriers in accessing critical services. Last month, the Maine Law Review, in partnership with Colby College, brought together scholars, practitioners, policymakers, and community leaders at Colby College to explore those challenges and the opportunities ahead.

The symposium highlighted the importance of collaboration, innovation, and listening closely to the communities that the law does not always fully reach.
