🎸 We were excited to welcome local guitar and effects pedal builder Dean Thornton to visit with our Music Business students this past Friday! Dean shared his artistic process as a craftsman, including his approach to building custom electric guitars using locally sourced materials.

In Music Business II, Dean and Dr. Yip connected his work to topics we’ve been exploring in class, including manufacturing models, labor costs, distribution, customer profiles, and consumer preferences for analog vs. digital products. Of course, we also had to hear some gear in action, demoing fuzz, delay, distortion, and other effects pedals!

Wednesday: Join Benny Bubman (Dr. Christine Hoerning) and other Crane faculty on a high-energy, unapologetically q***r journey through Hollywood’s history of LGBTQ+ representation. Drawing from Vito Russo’s landmark book, The Celluloid Closet, this live theatrical presentation blends film, lip-sync performances, iconic movie themes, and sharp commentary to unpack how cinema shaped (and erased) q***r identities. From “sissies” and tragic tropes to modern q***r storytelling, it’s an educational and campy celebration into the history of how we’ve been seen on the big screen.

For the Love of Learning! On October 5th & 6th, 49 Crane music education students participated in special education classrooms in Gouverneur, Malone, Massena, and Ogdensburg school districts! We are so grateful to all the teachers for providing this experience and sharing their expertise! Some of the comments at Crane upon return: “I was teaching all day! 😉It was great!” “I learned so much…I can use ideas from what I saw today in my own music classroom!” “Today made me think about things in a new way. I am determined to find ways for every learner to participate in my band.” “Teachers in the North Country are so positive and enthusiastic!” “I saw so much—so many types of classes and so many ways of teaching/learning…It was super helpful to be able to ask questions and talk with all the teachers!”

Thank you to all of our local partners for all you do and for supporting the next generation!
