On Wednesday, Dr. Sue Powers took students Shey (MS Env. Policy '27) and Raquelle (BS ESE '30) to the Adirondack Youth Climate Summit at the Wild Center! Dr. Powers presented to local teachers on incorporating the new climate education requirements into their schools' curricula. While Dr. Powers was presenting and engaging with educators, Shey and Raquelle learned about recycling programs, tree health, composting, watershed management, refrigerant recycling, and more. Of course, they stopped for many pictures with the Trolls!

We are thrilled to share that Clarkson has joined the Food Recovery Network, a national nonprofit that helps hundreds of colleges and universities fight hunger and climate change by recovering leftover campus food. Thank you to Tiffany Brown from Sodexo at Clarkson and Johannes Richter from the CU Pantry for getting food recovery up and running. In just a few weeks, Clarkson has sent over 250 pounds of leftover RoBro food to the CU Pantry!

Students in Alex French's EV-414 Forest Carbon class have been hard at work this fall measuring trees! With the help of local foresters Tom and Dan, students have learned how to measure the diameter of trees, the height of trees, and the crown condition. As of Saturday, Clarkson has measured 10 out of 15 plots and measured hundreds of trees. This project helps Clarkson steward the land and measure carbon sequestration in these specific tree plots.

The first trip out to the woods was nice and warm, but the class bundled up on Saturday in 30-degree temperatures!

The ISE is collecting plastic film in partnership with the Potsdam Rotary Club! Check out three locations across campus---outside the ISE, first-floor Science Center, and by the mail room window. More coming soon!

Generally, tearable, soft plastics are accepted. If it crinkles, it can't be collected, including chip bags, candy bar wrappers, and frozen food bags. Specific signage at the collection boxes has clear examples of what is and isn't accepted. If you have any questions, email [email protected]!

Staff members are encouraged to bring plastic film from their household!

Hint: all types of bubble mailers, including Amazon mailers, are included! Just tear off the shipping label first.

The CU Pantry is taking a new vital step toward supporting student needs and access to everyday essentials! The Pantry is now running a free, limited-time clothing closet as colder weather creeps in. Preferential appointments are given to international graduate students, but other graduates and undergraduates may request an appointment.

First, view the inventory on this page and see if there is anything of interest to you. If so, make an appointment using the second QR code to try on the item and see if you want to take it home.

As Clarkson develops how to make this initiative permanent, we encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity! Clothing stock is still high, but appointments will not be open permanently. Please email [email protected] if you have any questions!
