MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Leo Choi (‘19) is the regal President of PNKHR! He is a current Mol. Bio major and enjoys playing pool, guitar, or Starcraft, or simply enjoying a drink with friends (don’t worry, he’s old, he’s allowed to drink). Leo was in ROK Marine Corps boot camp when he lost 11kg of weight and spent two years not being allowed to smile, sit, lie down, drink water, or even use the bathroom when he wanted to. He remembers the feeling of having his freedom and basic rights taken away from him, and it is something that he will never forget. At the end of the bootcamp, a North Korean defector, who was also a female soldier, came in to explain that North Korean men had to serve 10 mandatory years against their will. Leo said he doesn’t dare try to imagine the toil of serving in the military for 10 years against one’s will. So he joined PNKHR to try to change that reality. Other fun facts about Leo: He lived in Guatemala and Venezuela for middle school and high school. And he can chug two cans of beer in 6 seconds! Take notes young ones. This is what age and experience look like.
