This spring, surrounded by friends, faculty, and fellow art enthusiasts, we joined the Art & Art History Department to celebrate "Nursing Through a Sculpture Lens", an exhibition by Maggie McFadden ’27, a nursing and studio art major.

Drawing on what she describes as "the intersection of my majors, reflecting both clinical experiences and creative expression," Maggie created three sculptures representing the academic majors within the School of Nursing and Health Sciences. Together, the works explore themes of care, resilience, and the human experience within healthcare.

As Maggie writes, "healing can take on different processes, both physical and emotional," a perspective that informed each piece in the exhibition and demonstrates how "my art practice is informed by my nursing perspective, and my nursing studies are strengthened by my creative life."

If you're in the Mondor Center this summer, be sure to stop by the Our Lady of Lourdes Chapel on the lower level, to experience her work.

In less than a year, our inaugural class of nursing students will officially enter the nursing workforce. Today, we’re proud to announce a new partnership with Scholars Network that will help support them as they take that next step.

Through the program, nursing students can connect directly with hospital employers while still completing their degree, securing post-graduation employment opportunities and substantial student loan repayment support before they even graduate — creating a more direct and affordable pathway into practice.

From the Harkins balcony to "The AMP", this weekend was one to remember for our nearly 60 Health Policy and Management graduates. On May 17, 2026, you crossed the Commencement stage and officially joined the long line of Providence College Friars making a difference in the world.

To say we’re proud is an understatement. Your laughter, brilliance, compassion, and commitment shaped our new (but mighty) school in ways that will last FAR beyond these four years.

We know you will continue to do great things for yourselves, each other, your neighbors, and your communities as you navigate life after Friartown. As we reflect on our time together, there is so much more to say. But for now, congratulations.

Go and create, lead, and serve — and never forget that home (read: Mondor) is where the heart is.

To France or bust. ✈️ 🇫🇷

Yesterday, Dr. Nancy Meedzan, Dr. Amy Delaney, Sister Mary Cecilia, O.P., and a group of eight incredible nursing students boarded a flight for Lourdes, France.

First launched last year, this pilgrimage offers students the opportunity to assist in caring for the sick and support pilgrims through prayer and sacred rituals at the baths, just as St. Bernadette was instructed by the Virgin Mary in 1858.

Along the way, students will visit Toulouse, attend Mass at the Church of the Jacobins — the final resting place of St. Thomas Aquinas — and stay in Prouilhe, the birthplace of the Dominican Order, where they will pray and share meals with the Dominican sisters.

Once in Lourdes, students will serve with the Hospitalité Notre-Dame de Lourdes, participate in nightly Rosary and Torchlight Processions, attend Mass at the Grotto, and accompany pilgrims through one of the world’s most sacred pilgrimage sites.

Through this experience, students will deepen their understanding of spiritual care in nursing while reinforcing the values of compassion, service, and human dignity that are central to their formation as future nurses.

Dr. Nancy Meedzan, chair of the Department of Nursing, was instrumental in developing these experiences, which provide students and faculty with broader perspectives on patient care, leadership, and service in both local and international healthcare settings.

Please keep our Friars in your prayers as they begin this meaningful journey.

Before he even arrived on campus, Etzer Lindor ’26 wrote down what he hoped to find in Friartown. Four years later, the Health Policy & Management and Biology double major leaves behind a legacy of research, mentorship, tutoring, and service — from the lab and the classroom to Guatemala and New Orleans. After graduation, he plans to pursue international service before applying to medical school.

This semester, our students are taking their classroom expertise beyond campus walls and into the public conversation.

We're proud to share that Ian Smith '27 and Sydney Draper '27 have both recently published opinion pieces in Providence Business News.

Ian, a Health Policy & Management and Neuroscience major, examines whether Rhode Island's Life Science Hub can sustain its momentum following years of significant public investment in biotech infrastructure — a timely and critical question for our region's future.

Sydney, a Health Policy & Management and Economics major, tackles one of the most pressing tensions in U.S. healthcare policy: how to balance the need for affordable medications with the enormous costs and uncertainties of pharmaceutical research and development.

These are complex, high-stakes issues — and our students are helping shape the narrative. We couldn't be more proud.

Happy first day of National Nurses Week! 🎉 What better way to kick it off than celebrating three of our (almost senior) nursing students—Hannah Dube '27, Francesca Kearns '27, and Sophia Calle '27—who presented their work at the 2026 National Nursing Ethics Conference last month!

Hannah and Francesca presented on restoring moral imagination, research that grew in part out of their pilgrimage to Lourdes last May. Sophia shared her work on simulation-enhanced ethics, which she developed through the DWC Bioethics Colloquium course.

We couldn't be more proud of how they represented Providence College

None of this would have happened without Amy Delaney, Ph.D., assistant professor of nursing, whose mentorship and passion for learning made this work possible as well as associate dean of nursing Nancy Meedzan, DNP, and the Providence College Center for Engaged Learning for helping fund and support the students' participation.

Here's to a wonderful Nurses Week! 🩺
