“It is a privilege to bear witness to somebody’s life. Documentary can do that. It can help us understand people more spiritually.”

TMA professor Brad Barber’s latest project, “States of America,” is one he has been working on for the last 16 years. The project is a series of short documentaries featuring one person from each U.S. state. Together, the 50 films form what Barber describes as a mosaic of American life.

“Everyone wants to belong,” Barber said. “I think it’s in our DNA. We all want to connect.”

You can watch new episodes of “States of America” every Wednesday in the new Arts Building Cinema at 5 p.m.
