Faculty Presenter Bio: Dr. Johnathan Thayer is Associate Professor at the School of Information Studies, Queens College, CUNY, where he is Coordinator of MLS/MA Programs. He teaches classes in archival studies, public history, and community-engaged local history.

QCSIS graduate students Brianna Brunson and Adam Yu Johnson, were named 2025-2026 Spectrum Scholars by the American Library Association Office for Diversity, Literacy and Outreach Services. The Spectrum Scholarship is a highly competitive national award supporting exceptional graduate students in library and information studies. Since 1997, ALA has awarded more than 1,600 Spectrum Scholarships. In the most recent cycle, the program received four times as many applications as available scholarships. Recipients are selected based on their commitment to community building, leadership potential, and advancing social justice in the field of librarianship.

Our alum Jeanie Pai who currently works at New York Public Library and our adjunct lecturer Miriam Tuliao co-authored the chapter "Seeking Affinity: Fostering Spaces for Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Peers in Libraries" in a new book titled Creating Healthy Library Workplaces: Five Factors that Improve Employee Engagement and Satisfaction, which was published by Bloomsbury in February 2026. Their chapter explores the value of cultivating supportive work cultures through employee-led affinity groups.

Lisa Rhody’s book titled “Feminist Digital Humanities: Intersections in Practice” (University of Illinois Press, 2025) was awarded the Ángel David Nieves Book Prize for edited collection with her coeditor Susan Schreibman in November, 2025. Dr. Lisa Rhody is the Director of the Digital Humanities Research Institute and Deputy Director of Digital Initiatives at The Graduate Center, CUNY. She is also a graduate student in our MLS program.

Christopher Lee, our MLS student, has been accepted into the HASTAC Scholars Fellowship Program, which is an innovative student-driven community of graduate and undergraduate students. Each year, around 100 new Scholars are accepted into a new 2-year cohort of the program. Professionally, Christopher Lee is an Information Architect in the technology field (currently at Spotify) and an Adjunct Instructor of Information Architecture and User Research. He is interested in research on information behavior as it pertains to emerging technologies.

Edna Otuomagie, our MLS student, was awarded the deg farrelly FMRT Media Librarian Scholarship from the American Library Association, Film & Media Round Table, for the 2025-2026 school year. The scholarship is given once a year to a Master’s degree candidate in Library Science who intends to work professionally with media collections in libraries.
