As a student, Robert Cotto ’04CCPS hosted a show on WSJU Radio, wrote film reviews for The Torch, and never missed an episode of Steven Van Zandt’s Underground Garage.

More than 20 years later, he’s not just working alongside the musician he once admired from afar. He helped tell his story as a producer of Stevie Van Zandt: Disciple, a Grammy-nominated documentary, and now hosts his own show on SiriusXM.

“St. John’s was honestly the best thing that ever happened to me,” Cotto shared.

From student radio to SiriusXM, his journey is a reminder that you never know where following your passions might take you.

From the streets of Brooklyn to the top of Wall Street. 📈

As part of The Peter J. Tobin College of Business's 100th anniversary celebration, St. John's University welcomed Lloyd Blankfein, former Chairman and CEO of Goldman Sachs, for an inspiring conversation about leadership, resilience, and navigating challenges.

More than 150 students had the opportunity to hear firsthand about his journey, including the lessons he learned leading one of the world's largest investment banks through the 2008 financial crisis.

His advice to students? “Take shots on goal. The more shots you take, the more likely one is going to find the net.”

What happened at on September 11, 2001?

As news of the attacks reached campus, members of the community sprang into action. Students from the Manhattan campus made their way across the 59th Street Bridge to Queens, where faculty, administrators, staff, and students provided housing, food, clothing, phone access, and support.

Just three blocks from the World Trade Center, St. John’s Manhattan campus was transformed into an American Red Cross Respite Center, providing firefighters, police officers, and other Ground Zero workers a place to rest, clean up, and receive a hot meal.

Twenty-five years later, members of our community reflect on those extraordinary days and how, in a moment of unimaginable tragedy, St. John’s put its Vincentian mission into action.

The passage of time does not diminish the lives, stories, and memories we carry from September 11, 2001. For New Yorkers and so many within the community, it is personal, a day marked by lives lost, families forever changed, extraordinary acts of courage, and a city that came together in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

Today, we pause to remember those we lost, honor those who served and sacrificed, and hold close all whose lives continue to carry the weight of that day. May we honor their memory not only in remembrance, but in the compassion, service, and care we show one another.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸
