Congrats to Ph.D. student Anurata Hridi on receiving an honorable mention at the 2026 Educational Data Mining Conference!

Her paper, "Federated Code-Aware Knowledge Tracing for Privacy-Preserving Student Performance Forecasting", explores how federated learning can offer better performance and privacy regarding code representation strategies in programming education.

“I’m really passionate about specializing our emergency management and response to specific areas,” said Ph.D. student Mac Gagné. “Specific areas have different needs, different ways of communicating things, different channels of distribution for materials.”

In 2024, as Hurricane Helene rocked North Carolina, Gagné was working as a National NOAA Knauss Fellow to FEMA; as the hurricane stormed northward, she put her computer science background to work, conducting immediate calculations and providing necessary algorithms to help guide logistics on the ground in western NC and beyond.

Now at NC State, Gagné specializes in narrative artificial intelligence, a branch of generative AI focused on developing better technology for emergency managers. Learn more about Gagné and her work ⤵️

Congratulations to William Enck, Goodnight Distinguished Professor in Security Sciences, who was recently elected President of the USENIX Board of Directors!

USENIX is one of the top academic publishers for work on system, security and networking, with flagship venues including OSDI, NSDI, FAST and USENIX Security. Previously, Enck served as Secretary, Director at Large and Vice President, working to advance computing systems communities and further the reach of innovative research.
