Community leaders and partners broke ground today on Chapanoke, a new affordable housing development that will bring 200 apartments to Raleigh, with at least 30% of the units reserved for eligible students.

Located near Wake Tech's Public Safety Education Campus, the development will be built on land Wake Tech donated to Wake County in 2021 to support affordable housing for students and the broader community.

For students balancing work, family and school, stable, affordable housing can provide the security they need to stay enrolled and complete their education.

The project brings together Harmony Housing, Gilbane, F7 International, the City of Raleigh, Wake County and the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency to help expand access to affordable housing and create more opportunities for students and families.

From firefighters and healthcare professionals to electricians and automotive technicians, skilled workers help keep Wake County running.

As our community grows, so does the demand for a highly trained workforce.

On Nov. 3, Wake County voters will consider a $149.1 million bond proposal that would expand training programs in public safety, skilled trades, automotive technology and healthcare, while supporting facility and technology improvements across the college.

After weeks of preparation, Culinary Arts and Baking & Pastry Arts students showcased their talents at the North Carolina American Culinary Federation competition. students earned 39 medals, including 10 gold, 17 silver and 12 bronze. The experience gave students an opportunity to present their work, receive feedback from industry professionals and take another step toward their career goals.
