A Veterans Day message from Most Worshipful Brother Steve Norris:
Brethren and Friends across the Old North State,
On this Veterans Day, we pause as North Carolina Masons to honor the men and women who have worn the uniform of our nation. From the mountains to the coast, our communities are shaped and safeguarded by those who answered the call to serve.
To our veterans: thank you. Your courage, discipline, and quiet devotion to duty have defended the liberties we enjoy — including the freedom to gather as we do in our lodges, to worship according to the dictates of conscience, and to labor together in peace. Your service is written into the story of North Carolina and into the lives of your families, neighbors, and Brothers.
We also remember and support the families of those who serve, and we hold in solemn respect the memory of those who gave, in Lincoln’s words, “the last full measure of devotion.” As Masons, committed to Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth, let us be especially mindful of the needs of our veterans and their families — not only today, but throughout the year. A phone call, a visit, a ride to an appointment, or an open chair at lodge can be a powerful expression of gratitude.
I encourage each lodge in our jurisdiction to take a moment at its next communication to recognize the veterans among you, to speak their names with thanks, and to remember in prayer or in silence those who are no longer with us.
On behalf of the Grand Lodge of Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons of North Carolina, I extend to all who have served — and to those who serve still — our deep appreciation and respect. May the Great Architect of the Universe watch over you and bless this Old North State we call home.
Fraternally,
Steve M. Norris
Grand Master
