Due to the hard work of our team of undergraduate outreach ambassadors, we have been able to bring engineering into the community through our Family STEM Nights and invite students to explore engineering on campus through our Engineering Bits & Bytes Days and Boys and Girls Teen STEAM Summit. This May, four of our team members graduated from NC State with degrees in engineering. We are so thankful for the work they have done helping to inspire future engineers and wish them the best of luck in their journeys moving forward.

Our Family STEM Night Team Lead, Neil Sood, served as the student commencement speaker for the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. He did a great job! Here's a highlight of the wisdom he shared, but we encourage you to watch the full speech:

"Studying electrical and computer engineering is both beautiful and demanding. It will forever rewire the way you think. So, take the problem solving from circuit analysis, the interpersonal communication from senior design, and curiosity elicited by your professors with you as you continue to think and do."

STAMP Camp 2026: A Free Virtual Summer Adventure!

This summer, ignite your child’s curiosity with STAMP Camp, a fun, free virtual program designed to bring STEAM learning (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) right to your inbox!

What is STAMP Camp?
S.T.A.M.P stands for Science, Technology, Art, Math, and Problem-solving. This free virtual, asynchronous camp delivers hands-on activities straight from the National Postal Museum, all through email.
STAMP Camp is fully digital, free, and self-paced, making it accessible to everyone, everywhere. Each week of activities connects postal history with STEAM learning, using real objects and stories from across the Smithsonian.

How It Works:
1. Sign up for free at https://postalmuseum.si.edu/stamp-camp-2026 to receive five unique STEAM activities in June and July.
2. All activities are emailed directly to you for easy exploration.
3. Complete at your own pace, whenever, wherever.

Our last Family STEM Night of the 2025-2026 academic year was hosted at the end of April at Casa Esperanza Montessori. Our wonderful team of NC State engineering student volunteers shared 10 hands-on activities to help elementary students and their families explored engineering. We had a blast and hope to have inspired the next generation of engineers!

We loved sharing about The Engineering Design Process with Girl Scouts during this great event hosted by the Kappa Omega Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho and the Eta Upsilon Chapter of Kappa Delta. During our session, girl scouts were able to design and test their own space crafts that can capture the power of the "wind" and move forward through space on our zipline testing device!

Neil has been a wonderful member of our outreach team, serving as our Family STEM Night Lead and helping to connect elementary students and their families to opportunity to explore engineer. Neil has helped to inspire countless future engineers and we are so proud of all the great work he has done! Congratulations Neil and good luck in your future endeavors!
