We are excited to announce that NC State Professor Aaron Kiess will soon take the helm as head of the NC State Prestage Department of Poultry Science on July 1.

Kiess, who has served as interim department head since January, joined the department as the Braswell Distinguished Professor in commercial layer management, physiology or nutrition in 2021 to address issues facing the layer industry in North Carolina.

As one of only six poultry science departments in the United States, Kiess said the Prestage Department of Poultry Science is uniquely positioned because of North Carolina’s expansive poultry industry, which includes turkeys, broilers and layers.

“Most of the poultry science departments at U.S. universities are focused on a specific poultry commodity, but in North Carolina, we have all three commercial commodity groups of poultry, all of which are strong and thriving,” he said. “Having the opportunity as a department to support all three areas is very unique. Not a lot of places can say they have that kind of impact.”
