Climate Change & Society at NC State NCSU offers innovative graduate programs to promote bridging the gap between climate change science

NC State offers a Master’s degree in Climate Change & Society, and a graduate certificate in Climate Adaptation. Both programs combine climate change science with broad knowledge of climate-sensitive sectors to support the development of effective adaptation and mitigation strategies. Students in both programs have the opportunity to learn from international experts in climate science, economics, policy, and communications. The programs support the goals of students interested in careers in climate change adaptation and current professionals in climate-sensitive sectors who are concerned with the aspects of planning or setting policies affected by global climate change.

Chloe Fanelli earned her BS in Business Administration, Management and Operations from East Carolina University. As an avid volunteer with Raleigh Parks and local non-profits, Chloe has been exposed to the links between environmental education and social equity. Ricky Price earned is BS in Biology from UNC Chapel Hill. He performed fieldwork in conservation and ecology for 4 years in the private and academic sectors following his undergraduate experience. He joined the program to apply interdisciplinary knowledge towards strengthening community resiliency and improving existing frameworks for community participation in environmental stewardship and actions. Zoe Tobien earned her BS in Environmental Science from NC State. She joined the program to increase her confidence in communicating climate to a variety of audiences. Specifically, she is interested in the intersection of climate change and public health, whether that be in the increased frequency of natural hazards & disasters or in new challenges related to expanding geographic ranges of disease causing microbes. Oz Tellez earned his BS in Statistics from Appalachian State University. an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Geospatial Technology and is a GIS expert, having worked for several engineering firms and currently works for Entrust, a Leidos company. He is originally from Cuba and he joined the program to understand how Climate Change will affect hurricanes in the Caribbean, what impacts it will have on small islands and coastal communities there, and what creative strategies can be developed to help mitigate those impacts.

She has worked on  projects involving waste reduction and traceability, environmental and climate research, GIS and mapping, and community-based research.
