Where can an NC State engineering degree take you? For Victoria Wright (โ€™24), it led straight to the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania. ๐ŸŒ

After four years of studying Biological and Agricultural Engineering, Victoria traded the familiar classrooms of Weaver Labs for a two-year service with the Peace Corps.

Today, she is living and teaching at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro, using her passion for education and adventure to make a global difference.๐Ÿ”๏ธ

"I keep reflecting on the mental strength it takes to get an engineering degree from NC State. I always remind myself that I graduated with an engineering degree, so I can do hard things," Wright says.

We recently caught up with Victoria to discuss her unique post-graduate journey and what it's like teaching abroad.

The BAE department just added two brand-new, methane-powered tractors from New Holland Agriculture to our fleet! ๐Ÿšœ๐Ÿ’จ

By running on compressed natural gas, these tractors create a closed-loop, circular agricultural system that minimizes emissions by turning manure into energy to cultivate crops. ๐ŸŒพ

Our faculty members are incredibly excited to bring this cutting-edge technology directly into our research projects and classrooms. ๐Ÿ”ฌ๐ŸŽ“

BAE's Natalie Nelson is part of the cohort of 10 new professors who were recently named William Neal Reynolds Distinguished Professors. ๐Ÿ‘

One of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences' highest honors, the professorship recognizes outstanding scholars, leaders, teachers and mentors.

Nelson is a nationally recognized expert in coastal water quality forecasting and environmental data science, with particular expertise in how tidal flooding, sea-level rise and engineered water systems drive microbial contamination and public health risk in coastal communities. ๐ŸŒŠ

Meet Megan Aljian, a BAE senior whose journey has taken her from the forest floor to the forefront of student innovation.๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿบ

Graduating this spring with a degree in biological engineering, Aljian has spent her college years helping people build connections with each other and with the natural world.

As she begins her career as a stream restoration engineer at McAdams, she brings experience as an undergraduate researcher, a resident advisor and a startup founder. ๐ŸŽ’๐Ÿงช

"BAE is really a program that pulls for each other," Aljian says. "I have never seen a program where the alumni reach back so much and the professors go above and beyond for students."

Meet our a-May-zing graduate student of the month...

Carson Crowley!๐Ÿบ๐Ÿ”ฉ

Hometown: Durham, NC

Previous degrees:
BS in Biological and Agricultural Engineering Technology at NC State

Who is your advisor, and what is your research topic?:
Dr. Frank Bai - I am studying Biological and Agricultural Engineering (concentration in Systems Analysis).

What first made you interested in this field?:
The hands-on aspect is what first made me interested in this field. Being able to design something and then actually take it out into the real world to test and apply it in order to solve significant problems in the industry is very rewarding and allows you to be involved through the whole engineering process.

Song youโ€™ve been loving?
โ€œMusic for the Soulโ€ - Sam Barber

Fun fact?
I have been playing the guitar for 15 years
