Join us in person or virtually for this year's Frederick and Joan Barkalow Distinguished Conservationist Lecture. This year's lecture," Fear and Sprawl: Large Carnivores at the Wildland-Urban Interface," features Dr. Chris Wilmers.

Dr. Wilmers is a professor of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation at the University of California, Santa Cruz. His research explores how climate change and habitat alteration impacts wildlife populations such as African lions and leopards in Kenya, wolves in Yellowstone, and pumas in California.

He is currently assisting the Wildlife Conservation Network develop a California program focused on maintaining and restoring wildlife connectivity for species such as pumas and deer.

Could a trade war change your toilet paper? 🧻

The College of Natural Resources' Dr. Ronalds Gonzalez gives his insights into whether the new tariffs could raise the price and reduce the quality of toilet paper and other tissue products.

“If you use premium bath tissue or paper towels, these new trade dynamics could soon affect both your wallet and your everyday comfort," says Dr. Gonzalez, an associate professor in the Department of Forest Biomaterials.

NC State University researchers are helping advance biobased manufacturing and rural economic development in the Southeast through an initiative backed by up to $160 million from the National Science Foundation. 🌱

The initiative, known as the BRIDGES Engine, will turn crops like miscanthus and switchgrass into biobased materials for automotive, construction and packaging applications while building new markets, businesses and jobs in rural communities.

"We are making sure these technologies aren’t just fascinating lab experiments but affordable, environmentally friendly tools that can make a positive difference in everyday life," says Dr. Ronalds Gonzalez, an associate professor in the Department of Forest Biomaterials at NC State.

On Tuesday, August 25, our very own Dr. Lincoln Larson will be the guest speaker for the next "Conservation Convos" at the Marbles Kids Museum.

In celebration of the National Park Service's birthday, Dr. Larson will explore the fascinating story of wolf recovery efforts in North Carolina, drawing on his research with grey wolves in Yellowstone National Park and red wolves here in North Carolina.
