Aaron Frye is the Spring 2026 Linde Exceptional Teaching Assistant Awardee 👏🏆

The award recognizes the instructional effectiveness and class management of Ph.D. candidates serving as exemplary TAs in the department. Aaron joined the department as an assistant teaching professor this fall and was recently named a Climate and Sustainability Academy Fellow at NC State.

Prysmian Chief Innovation, Sustainability and R&D Officer, Srinivas Siripurapu (MS ‘00, PhD ‘03) and his colleagues recently spent a day talking to our College of Engineering faculty and graduate students about the evolution and growth plans of the world’s leading provider of energy and digital connection solutions. We look forward to exploring future collaborations with Prysmian, including joint research, workforce development, and internship/employment opportunities for our students.

The company recently broke ground on a $1 billion expansion of their facility in Claremont, Catawba County, NC. The investment is expected to create 385 new local jobs including over 50 engineers and expand domestic optical fiber and cable manufacturing capacity.

After 34 years of teaching, research and mentorship, Richard Spontak has officially retired from NC State!

From guiding students through challenging thermodynamics courses to pioneering work in polymer science, Prof. Spontak has made an incredible impact on the departments of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and Material Science and Engineering. S. Frank and Doris Culberson Distinguished Professor Orlin Velev is being recognized for his outstanding scientific contributions to colloid chemistry!

Velev is the recipient of the 2027 American Chemical Society Award in Colloid Chemistry. "This award recognizes a large body of multidisciplinary research performed in my group since I joined NC State University,” he said.
