A Special Letter to the NAA‑SAU Members and Our Alumni Community

Dear NAA‑SAU Alumni,

As I prepare to close this chapter as President of the National Alumni Association of Saint Augustine’s University, my heart is full. Full of gratitude, full of pride, and full of love for this extraordinary community that has walked beside me over these past four years.

Serving as your President has been one of the greatest honors of my life. This journey has stretched me, inspired me, and blessed me in ways I could never have imagined. There were challenges, yes — but every challenge was met with the strength, generosity, and unwavering spirit of our alumni family. Together, we lifted our university through meaningful initiatives, financial support, and a shared commitment to preserving the legacy of SAU. Together, we celebrated victories, supported our students, and strengthened the bonds that tie generations of Falcons to one another.

None of this would have been possible without you.

To the Executive Boards, Local Chapter Presidents, Regional Coordinators, and every alum who offered time, wisdom, creativity, or simply a word of encouragement — thank you. Your dedication has been the heartbeat of our progress. You showed up, again and again, with passion and purpose. You reminded me what truly means to serve.

As I step away from this role, I do so with immense gratitude for what we have built together and deep confidence in the future of our Association. I encourage each of you to continue supporting our programs, giving generously to SAU, and staying engaged in the work that strengthens our beloved community. Our university needs us — and I know we will continue to rise to the call.

Although my term as President is ending, my commitment to the NAA and to Saint Augustine’s University remains as strong as ever. I look forward to serving in new ways, supporting our mission, and standing proudly beside you as we continue to uplift Saint Augustine’s University.

Thank you for trusting me. Thank you for walking with me. Thank you for the friendships, the memories, and the moments I will carry with me always. I extend my warmest wishes to the incoming leadership as they guide the Association into its next season of growth and achievement.

With heartfelt appreciation and enduring Falcon pride,

Dr. Johnelle L. Sherald ‘76

Remembering Dr. Prezell R. Robinson: Former Saint Augustine's University President Dies at 105

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Dr. Prezell Russell Robinson, the eighth president of Saint Augustine's University, whose nearly three decades of visionary leadership transformed our beloved institution and left an enduring legacy in higher education throughout North Carolina. Dr. Robinson passed away peacefully on Monday, June 29, 2026, at the age of 105.

The Robinson and Johnson families have announced his passing and respectfully request your prayers and continued support during this time of mourning.

A proud 1946 graduate of Saint Augustine's University, Dr. Robinson returned to his alma mater as a faculty member before rising through the ranks to become the University's eighth president. Serving from 1967 to 1995, he led Saint Augustine's through one of the most significant periods in its history. During his remarkable 28-year presidency, he strengthened academic programs, reinforced the University's accreditation, modernized campus facilities, expanded educational opportunities, and helped prepare generations of students for lives of leadership, service, and excellence.

Dr. Robinson's unwavering commitment to Saint Augustine's University and his dedication to the education and advancement of countless Falcons will continue to inspire our University community for generations to come.

Please join us in keeping the Robinson and Johnson families in your thoughts and prayers as we honor the extraordinary life and enduring legacy of a beloved Falcon, educator, and visionary leader.

Dear Alumni,

Today, we join communities across the nation in commemorating Juneteenth, a day that marks the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and celebrates the enduring pursuit of freedom, justice, and equality.

Juneteenth is both a reflection on our shared history and a reminder of the progress made through courage, perseverance, and faith. As alumni of Saint Augustine’s University, an institution founded to educate formerly enslaved individuals and advance opportunity through education, this day holds special significance for our Falcon family.

Let us honor the legacy of those who came before us by continuing to uplift our communities, support educational excellence, and work toward a brighter future for generations to come.

On this Juneteenth, may we celebrate freedom, embrace unity, and recommit ourselves to the values that inspire positive change.

Happy Juneteenth!
