ARTIST STATEMENT
Fifty Years of Clay
It is difficult to believe I’ve been at UNM Taos for 10 rewarding years, and even harder to imagine I’ve been teaching ceramics for 50 years. Seeing all the work in one room allows me to see recurring themes. The pieces in the exhibit are examples of work made over my five decades in clay practice.

The show reflects the two roles I fulfill, artist and teacher. In the Fish Bowl Gallery, the works show the development of my personal artistic style. The elements that are consistent are the exploration of texture, and the combination of vessel and figure.
In the hall is work I have done as a teacher, either to learn or to show different techniques, so they show a wide variety of forming and finishing.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity of sharing the work I’ve done as a teacher and a clay artist
