Shasta College is pleased to announce and proud to welcome our new full-time music faculty member, Julian Dürr, as director of choral activities and instructor of music (Music Appreciation and class piano). Julian, a former Shasta College alumnus, completed his undergraduate and graduate degrees studying conducting, composition, and piano at the prestigious Boston Conservatory at Berklee, where he studied orchestral conducting with Bruce Hangen, choral conducting with Dr. Steve Spinelli, piano with Dr. Jonathan Bass, and jazz piano with Pierre Hurel.
Over the years, Julian’s professional work as a composer, pianist, and conductor has included engagements with the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra, Harvard New Music Ensemble, Boston Lyric Opera, Back Bay Chorale, the Lincoln-Sudbury Civic Orchestra, and the Boston Collegium Choir (as founder), with Grammy-winning ensembles including The Crossing and Cantus, and with institutions such as the New England Conservatory, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and the Juilliard School.
Julian began his artistic journey at a very young age, studying piano with the late Steinway artist Duane Hampton and concertizing around the North State. While at Shasta College, he studied conducting with Dr. Jeff Specht and piano with faculty emerita Dr. Elizabeth Waterbury. He was also a TRIO Upward Bound student and McConnell Scholar. We are thrilled that he will be joining our ranks, and we look forward to many years of music-making and building community through music. Welcome, Julian!
