University of Redlands

University of Redlands The University of Redlands is a private, nonprofit university that connects students to a world of opportunity, geared toward their passions and potential.

Founded in 1907, the University of Redlands is a private, nonprofit university that has prepared students for lives of meaning, impact, and joy for more than 100 years! Centrally located near the beaches, mountains and desert in the heart of Southern California, the University offers more than 50 undergraduate programs, as well as 20 graduate programs in business, communicative disorders, educatio

n, geographic information systems and music—blending liberal arts and professional programs, applied and theoretical study, traditional majors and self-designed curricula. For undergraduates, the University has one of the highest study abroad participation rates among its peers; a NCAA Division III athletic program contributes to the many extracurricular opportunities available; and students complete more than 120,000 hours of public service annually. The distinctive Johnston Center for Integrative Studies enables self-motivated undergraduates to negotiate their own interdisciplinary course of study with a faculty/peer committee. In addition to an award-winning 160-acre residential campus in Redlands featuring orange groves, architectural landmarks and more than 1,700 trees, the University includes seven regional locations, providing innovative programs at convenient places and times for working adults. Surveys show that generations of alumni have found that the University, established in 1907, prepared them well for career success and lifelong learning. See www.redlands.edu

Campus is already giving fall term energy.

Athletes are back in practice. RESOLUTE students are in the labs. Faculty are settling back into their offices. And in just a few days, the rest of our Bulldogs arrive.

Fall 2026 doesn’t officially start until Monday, August 31 — but honestly? It already feels like it.

See you soon, Bulldogs.

Welcome to RESOLUTE, Bulldogs!

Before the first day of classes even begins, a group of first-generation students is already in labs, exploring STEM opportunities, and building the community that will carry them through their time at Redlands.

RESOLUTE is a no-cost, pre-orientation program designed to empower students in STEM — and we are so excited to have you here. Check out this video from last year’s program to see what it’s all about.

For the last two decades, Renée Van Vechten hasn’t just taught political science at the University of Redlands — she’s helped shape how it’s taught — continually placing students at the forefront of education.

“We try really hard here at Redlands to get students to recognize their own capacities for growth and their own abilities to grow into the person that they can imagine — through hard work, of course,” she said.

In late 2025, Van Vechten was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Political Science Education (PSE) member section of the American Political Science Association (APSA).

“I joke that I’ve already peaked, but there’s still so much more to do!” she said. “I had no idea that they would honor me at this point in my career.”

This summer, first- and second-year Bulldogs traded lecture halls for Seattle’s top companies during the Bulldog Trek — an OCPD EDGE career exploration program. Stops included Expeditors, NVIDIA, Amazon, Goldman Sachs, CLA Meridian Capital, and Gourmondo.

For Angel Escatel ‘27, one moment stood out: hearing Gourmondo CEO Alissa Leinonen share her people-first leadership philosophy.

“Her journey, leadership, and the genuine appreciation she has for her employees showed me that a successful business is built on strong relationships and a people-first culture.”

Real companies. Real connections. Real career clarity.

Great teachers aren’t made in a classroom lecture. They’re made in a classroom of their own.

The School of Education’s Teacher Residency pathway at University of Redlands places aspiring teachers directly into PK-12 classrooms from day one — working alongside veteran mentor teachers while earning a California teaching credential and a master’s degree in education.

Think of it like a medical residency or a legal clerkship. Less observation. More leading. More doing. Because the best way to become a great teacher is to start teaching.

Congratulations to Leonardo Lopez Hernandez ‘24, who was honored yesterday on the California Senate floor! As a Capital Fellow, Hernandez served Senate District 3 in Senator Christopher Cabaldon’s office — working to protect the state’s citizens and its environment.

A public servant and a Bulldog through and through.
