University of Redlands The University of Redlands is a private, nonprofit university that connects students to a world of opportunity, geared toward their passions and potential.

Founded in 1907, the University of Redlands is a private, nonprofit university that has prepared students for lives of meaning, impact, and joy for more than 100 years! Centrally located near the beaches, mountains and desert in the heart of Southern California, the University offers more than 50 undergraduate programs, as well as 20 graduate programs in business, communicative disorders, education, geographic information systems and music—blending liberal arts and professional programs, applied and theoretical study, traditional majors and self-designed curricula. For undergraduates, the University has one of the highest study abroad participation rates among its peers; a NCAA Division III athletic program contributes to the many extracurricular opportunities available; and students complete more than 120,000 hours of public service annually. The distinctive Johnston Center for Integrative Studies enables self-motivated undergraduates to negotiate their own interdisciplinary course of study with a faculty/peer committee. In addition to an award-winning 160-acre residential campus in Redlands featuring orange groves, architectural landmarks and more than 1,700 trees, the University includes seven regional locations, providing innovative programs at convenient places and times for working adults. Political Science Professor Art Svenson never saw a chalkboard as chaos.

Covered edge-to-edge with ideas and questions, it was a map of how to think, and generations of Redlands students learned to follow it. He taught constitutional law, but more than that, he explored curiosity.

After 45 years in the classroom, Svenson has retired. The lessons he leaves behind have become a legacy that will endure long after the chalk dust settles.

University of Redlands Office of Community Service Learning (CSL) celebrated 35 years of Learning Through Service, and honored the extraordinary career and legacy of Tony D. Mueller '89, '18, CSL's founding director.

The celebration kicked off at the Orange Blossom Trail, where students, alumni, families, and community members came together to clean up and paint a commemorative mural. The day concluded with a dinner and special programming at the Alumni House, honoring CSL and the thousands of students, faculty, staff, community partners, and donors who have built a culture of service at Redlands.

We are deeply grateful to the Will J. Reid Foundation and Char & Larry Burgess for their generous support of CSL. Their commitment to service education strengthens the communities we serve. Thank you to everyone who has been part of CSL’s story, past and present.

University of Redlands alumni gathered to honor Professor Jack Osborn ‘69, a global busines leader, alumnus, and founder of our Global Business program.

Elias Nicolas ‘27 was named the first recipient of the Osborn Memorial Scholarship, a milestone that turns Professor Osborne’s legacy of mentorship and generosity into opportunity for future students. Each recipient who follows will carry his name forward.

Jack’s name will also live on in the place he helped build. A permanent plaque at the School of Business & Society will remind every student, faculty member, and visitor of the professor who gave them a global vision and remained, always, a true Bulldog.

University of Redlands welcomed author and historian Jon Meacham to campus for a keynote address.

Meacham is a Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer, New York Times bestselling author, and Rogers Chair in the American Presidency at Vanderbilt University.

His keynote focused on the founding ideals of the Declaration of Independence and their lasting influence on American history.

The evening was presented by the Watchorn Lincoln Memorial Association and the Lincoln Memorial Shrine in partnership with the University, and opened Liberty’s Legacy: Celebrating 250 Years of Independence.

What happens when students have the opportunity to pursue big questions?

Through the Summer Science Research Program at University of Redlands, students gained hands-on experience conducting meaningful research alongside faculty mentors from both U of R and Loma Linda University.

Across disciplines, students explored complex questions, developed their skills, and experienced firsthand what it means to contribute to the research process.

At the annual poster session, they shared their findings with the campus community-presenting their work, answering questions, and exchanging ideas with fellow researchers.

Congratulations to our student researchers and the faculty mentors who invested their expertise, time, and guidance in the next generation of scholars.
