AID SPRING 2027 INTERNSHIPS!

Looking to gain professional experience while getting paid? UNR's Pack Internship Grant Program (PIGP) is now accepting applications for Spring 2027!

Opportunities are available in a variety of fields, including research, finance, event planning, data analytics, security, and more!

💵 Pay: $18–$20/hour
📅 Internship Dates: January 19 – May 4, 2027
⏰ Hours: 8–15 hours per week
🎓 Eligibility: Degree-seeking undergraduate students (December 2026 graduates are not eligible).
🚨 Application Deadline: Saturday, October 31 at 11:59 PM

Internships are competitive and require preparation. To intern, students must have a 3.0 GPA or higher, are junior or senior standing, and commit at least 120 hours per semester with enrollment in CRJ 491 (once selected for an internship).

What an exciting week for the University of Nevada, Reno Department of Criminal Justice at the 2026 Western Association of Criminal Justice (WACJ) Conference, held right here in Reno, Nevada!

Our department was well represented, with several faculty members and students presenting their research, including graduate student Emilee Arias.

🏆 A special congratulations to the UNR graduate students who swept the Student Poster Competition, taking all THREE top spots!

🥇 1st Place: Natalie Barretta (Social Psy PhD)
🥈 2nd Place: Sophia Stefani (CRJ MA)
🥉 3rd Place: Emilee Arias (CRJ MA)

We are incredibly proud of these students and their outstanding accomplishments!

🎤 The conference also featured luncheon keynote speaker Dr. Lisa Smyth-Roam of the Washoe County Sheriff's Office Forensic Science Division, who also serves as an adjunct professor in our department, teaching Foundations in Forensic Studies. It was wonderful to see her expertise highlighted at the conference!

👏 Finally, a huge congratulations to Professor Barthe, who will serve as the 2026–2027 President of WACJ! We are excited to see his leadership and contributions to the association in the coming year.

On Friday, September 25th, we celebrated our first Alpha Phi Sigma Induction Ceremony since the chapter was renewed after several years of inactivity, officially welcoming nine students into Alpha Phi Sigma, the Criminal Justice Honor Society!

Family and friends joined us to celebrate this exciting new chapter and recognize the hard work and dedication of our students.

A special thank you to our guest speaker, Officer Lizaola, a proud alum of both our Criminal Justice undergraduate and master’s programs. It was wonderful to welcome her back to celebrate with our students and share in this special occasion. Officer Lizaola also had the honor of officially pinning each of our new inductees!

Our Alpha Phi Sigma chapter is proudly advised by Professor Barthe and Professor Anderson.

Congratulations to our nine newest members! We are proud of all you have accomplished and excited for what is ahead for our chapter!
