You’re invited to join our panel discussion, “Translation of Policy through the Educational Ecosystem: A Discussion of IDEA’s Racial-Equity Monitoring, Compliance, and Future Directions"

This panel will focus on the mechanisms and dynamics of federal special education policy implementation across the United States, within state education agencies, and within districts and schools. Specifically, panelists will discuss how federal special education policy (e.g. IDEA) operates as both a legal safeguard and a mechanism that can reproduce and/or disrupt racialized and ableist inequities over time and across contexts.

Moderated by Dr. Alexandra Aylward, Expert on how Context and Policy Interact with Implications for Equity in Educational Opportunity at the Federal, State, and Local levels.

HDFS 400/600 Competing While Grieving: Performance, Identity, and Care After a Loss in Sport

Spring 2027 - Tuesdays/Thursdays 1:30-2:45pm

The Instructor is the incredible Emilio Parga, M.Ed.
He is a Sports and Performance Thanatologist and the founder and executive director of The Solace Tree.

This course examines death, loss, grief, and mourning within athletic and performance environments. Emphasis is placed on developing proactive skills in grief literacy, mental health awareness, and evidence-informed approaches to prevention, intervention, and postvention across individual, team, and organizational contexts.

Thank you to all the students who attended our Back to the Den event!

In total we had:
33 attendees along with representatives from the Math, Writing and Speaking, and Tutoring Centers.
5 donated pizzas.
Endless snacks.
15 coloring pages started.

Also a huge shoutout to Rick's Pizza for their generous pizza donation. It was incredible as always!

We will be meeting on the first Friday of every month, with our next event being: Friday, November 6, 1-3pm in the Student Success Center (WRB 3100).
