What happens before a pitcher releases the ball? The answer begins long before the throw.
New research from the University of Nevada, Reno School of Public Health is examining how ankle mobility, balance and stride length influence pitching mechanics. Led by alumnus Zack Buck, the study explores how small movements in the lower body can affect performance on the mound.
From his days playing T-ball in Spanish Springs to studying pitching mechanics as a graduate student, Buck's passion for baseball helped inspire research that could benefit athletes, coaches and athletic trainers alike.
