Nevada currently faces a nursing workforce shortage. In order to catch up to the national average, Nevada would need nearly 5,000 more registered nurses and more than 700 advanced practice nurses. The workforce shortage, flawed reimbursement for nursing care and other relevant topics Nevada nurses face will be discussed during the annual Nevada Nursing Summit on Nov. 5 at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa.

Hosted by the Orvis School of Nursing - University of Nevada, Reno, this annual event is the premier statewide gathering of nurses, educators, healthcare leaders and policymakers committed to shaping the future of nursing in Nevada. The summit, entitled “Investing in Nursing, Investing in Health: Leading & Thriving During Adversity,” will highlight the strengths and challenges of the state’s nursing workforce through inspiring keynotes, expert panels and interactive discussions as well as a virtual poster session to extend learning.

The event’s keynote speaker is health economist Olga Yakusheva, Ph.D., from Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, who will share groundbreaking insights into how investing in nursing improves patient outcomes and reduces costs across healthcare systems.
