Joshua Morey, MS, MSW, CAPSW, will share with us how economic insecurity impacts the mental health of young people and their families.

Learn about emerging trends in research regarding the prevalence of economic insecurity and its impacts on the mental health of young people and their families. Using C Wright Mills’s Sociological Imagination as a lodestar, we will analyze macro and micro level data, local (Barron County and Rice Lake) data, and perspectives of students and families with whom the presenter has worked as a school social worker. We will consider the effectiveness of interventions that have been attempted at structural, institutional, and interpersonal levels.

Joshua Morey is a Sociology Instructor at Northwood Technical College and UW-Eau Claire, a Certified Advanced Practice Social Worker, and Licensed School Social Worker.

He has over 25 years of experience in human services and education, with professional expertise in poverty, homelessness, mental health, domestic violence, s*xual violence, race, ethnicity, gender, s*x, s*xuality, and immigration.

When he’s not at work or reading, you might find him spending time with his family in the woods, on a lake, hunting, fishing, gardening, or playing basketball.

Last week students in Environmental Biology and Conservation Lab recently learned about Earth Day and then picked up trash on campus.

The first Earth Day was celebrated on April 22, 1970. It's creation is credited to U.S. Senator Ga***rd Nelson, who grew up in Clear Lake, Wisconsin which is less than 50 miles from the UW-Eau Claire - Barron County campus. Earth Day was a hallmark event of 1970s which is widely considered the decade of environmentalism.

Join us for a crash course on how we make audio drama. We touch on each phase of the process, from writing and directing to sound design, scoring and all the way to release.

Meet Richard Mills and Dayn Leonardson

Richard is the writer, director and producer of the award winning audio drama Homicide at Heavensgate, and its upcoming sequel Su***de in Santa Fe.

Dayn is an award winning sound designer and composer who has worked on a host of audio dramas, including The White Vault, Dark Dice, and Vast Horizons, as well as the aforementioned Homicide and Su***de.

Sentinel Studios is an independent audio production company intensely dedicated to crafting meaningful and thought-provoking stories brought to life through the medium of sound. At Sentinel Studios, we believe that default is not always correct, that ideas must not go unquestioned, and that new and unique perspectives are vital to better understanding this journey called life. From our vantage point, everything looks different, and we’d love the opportunity to show you what we see.

The Thursdays at the U weekly series is free and open to the public thanks to support from the UW-Eau Claire – Barron County Foundation. Neither seating reservations nor parking permits are needed for in-person attendees.
