Thank you to Michael Garrett, Founder of Trusted World, for joining Dr. Skaggs’ Social Stratification class!

The course examines the major theories and research surrounding social stratification, including how groups are hierarchically ranked through unequal access to societal resources and opportunities. As the founder of Trusted World, Mr. Garrett brought that conversation to life by sharing how his organization works to address resource gaps in our communities.
Through its network of more than 800 partner organizations, Trusted World provides food, clothing and personal hygiene items at no cost to individuals and families experiencing situational poverty, helping front-line organizations connect people with the resources they need.

We were pleased to give our students the opportunity to hear from a real-world practitioner and see how concepts discussed in the classroom can translate into meaningful work in the community.

EPPS was honored to co-host the second annual Secure Dallas with DigitalEra and contribute to the conversation on cybersecurity through a panel discussion, From Fundamentals to the Future: Regulation, Resilience, and the Cyber Workforce.

Moderated by Dean Jennifer Holmes, the panel brought together UT Dallas experts Nate Howe, Dr. Dann Arce, Dr. Pengfei Zhang and Dr. Marcelo Leal to discuss cybersecurity incidents, lessons learned, the role of regulation in reducing risk, and opportunities to build a skilled cyber workforce.

📰 Ammar Abupakr Awarded Prestigious Recondo Badge at US Army Advanced Camp

For college ROTC cadets, summer training at Army ROTC Advanced Camp is the ultimate test of endurance, tactical knowledge, and grit. Out of thousands of candidates who cycle through Fort Knox each year, only a select few manage to separate themselves from the pack. Among this summer's top performers is Cadet Ammar Abupakr, a Master of Public Policy student in the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences at UT Dallas, who distinguished himself by earning the coveted Recondo Award—a badge historic for its rigorous standards and low-rate bestowal. Cadet Abupakr is also the first cadet in the history of the Comet Battalion to receive this honor.

📰 Twenty-Four Graduate Students Complete EPPS Math and Coding Camp at UT Dallas

Twenty-four incoming graduate students completed the 2026 Math and Coding Camp hosted by the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences (EPPS) at The University of Texas at Dallas, a five-day camp that concluded last week. All 24 participants finished the full program, worked in teams on applied projects that they presented to their peers and instructors, and received certificates of completion.
