♟️ The 2026-27 Season is Underway!

We officially kicked off the year with our first First Team meeting, bringing together our student-athletes as we set our sights on another exciting season of competition and achievement.

The meeting was an opportunity to reflect on an incredible summer, highlighted by our team's outstanding 4th place finish at the FIDE World University Team Championship, competing against some of the strongest university teams in the world.

We also recognized several players for their exceptional performances and contributions, celebrating individual accomplishments that continue to elevate our program.

The evening concluded with a wonderful team dinner, giving players, coaches, staff, and supporters a chance to connect, share stories, and build the camaraderie that makes our team special.

Here's to a successful 2026-27 season. Let's get to work! 💪♟️

🌎♟️ The world stage. The world's best. The Comets delivered.

UT Dallas earned a Top 4 finish worldwide at the inaugural FIDE World University Team Chess Championships, Aug. 3-9 in Almaty, Kazakhstan going undefeated in pool play and battling all the way to a dramatic blitz tiebreaker in the match for third place.

Congratulations to our student competitors and coaches for representing UT Dallas with excellence on the global stage! 💫

♟️ Big congratulations to Reserve player Minh Tran on an outstanding tournament performance at the Houston City Championships, Aug 14-16, highlighted by a draw against a 2600-rated Grandmaster. Taking points off a player of that caliber is a remarkable achievement and a testament to Minh's hard work, preparation, and competitive spirit. 🏆 Champion in Benasque!

Congratulations to GM Mikhail Antipov, coach of the University of Texas at Dallas chess team, on winning the XLV Open Internacional Villa de Benasque, held July 5-14, 2026, in Benasque, Spain. The tournament attracted a strong international field of more than 500 players, including numerous titled competitors from around the world.

After 10 hard-fought rounds, Antipov finished tied for first on 8 points and secured the championship title on tiebreaks.

We are proud to see Coach Antipov representing UTD on the international stage and demonstrating the same excellence, preparation, and competitive spirit that he brings to our chess program every day. ♟️☄️

☄️ Good luck to GM Rahul Peddi at the 2026 U.S. Open Chess Championship!

Rahul is competing against top talent from across the country this week in Grand Rapids, Michigan, as part of the 126th edition of one of the most prestigious events on the U.S. chess calendar.

Rahul is currently tied for 2nd overall and just managed a draw with GM Zhou in the previous round. That photo says he means business!
