Due to ongoing winter weather concerns, the MLK Day of Service has been rescheduled to prioritize the safety of all participants.

Hosted by the Office of Student Volunteerism, this event honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. through action and service. Volunteers will partner with Feed My Starving Children to pack meals that will be distributed to communities around the world.

🚌 Transportation to and from the facility is provided and included in the event time.

Looking for a creative way to give back this Spring Break? 🎭

Join us in Nacogdoches for Alternative Spring Break as we support Lamp-Lite Theater, a community staple that has been bringing Broadway musicals, comedies, dramas, and children’s productions to East Texas since 1976.

Volunteers will serve behind the scenes, assisting with stage setup, show preparation, and production support to help make each performance possible.

From packing hygiene kits and sorting donations, to planting seedlings, singing karaoke, prepping a honeybee farm, and packing meals for children around the world — Comets showed up in a BIG way during VolunTemoc Week of Service.

VolunTemoc Week of Service showed what it truly means to be a Comet with a heart for others. 💚🧡

Over the course of the week, students, staff, faculty, and alumni came together to make an impact across our campus and community:

✨ Basic Needs Resource Center
Comets helped support Temoc’s Closet by sorting and cataloging critical donations, and even recycled unused t-shirts into tote bags benefiting the Comet Cupboard. Service + sustainability in action!

🌱 Student Wellness Center
At the UTD Community Garden, volunteers learned about campus-grown produce, planted seedlings using recycled materials, and discovered how small sustainable habits make big health differences.

🍚 Feed My Starving Children
UTD volunteers hand-packed meals that were shipped around the world to children in need.
Together, our shift helped create 87 boxes → 18,792 meals → feeding 51 kids a daily meal for an entire year.
That’s the power of service. ❤️

🎤 The Reserve at Richardson
Students and staff brought joy to senior residents through karaoke, games of UNO, conversation, and laughter. Service isn’t always about supplies — sometimes it’s about connection and kindness.

🐝 Office of Sustainability + Prof. Thomson – Luna Farm
Comets became “Honey Helpers” — pulling weeds, spreading mulch, and prepping the honeybee apiary for winter. Protecting pollinators protects our planet!

🧼 Office of Development & Alumni Relations – Hygiene Kit Packing
Volunteers worked side-by-side with alumni to pack hygiene kits for the Basic Needs Resource Center, combining service with networking and campus pride.
