📣 Calling UTD students, alumni, literature/film buffs, and local creatives... join our interactive, fun Pop-Up Workshop on (Sep 30) to translate a scene from Christopher Nolan's🎬Odyssey into prose, verse, or visual panels. Let’s compare Nolan's scene to landmark translations and create our own.

✨ All skill levels are welcome; a translation background is not required.

🤓 Fun Fact: When Nolan’s movie came out this summer, the renowned Greek scholar and Odyssey translator, Emily Wilson, had🔥strong words:

❝ It has nothing convincing to say about time, memory, history, war, or the relationship between one warrior’s glorious return and the lives of his family, adversaries, comrades, friends, and neighbors. It lacks psychological, emotional, political, and ethical depth. Its narrative structure is gimmicky. The writing is abysmal. None of the characters have convincing motivation for their actions or words.❞ (Source: https://www.lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v48/n14/emily-wilson/an-uncomplicated-man).

📣 The Center for Translation Studies at UTD is now officially the Rainer Schulte Center for Translation Studies.

🎁 This change is made possible by a generous gift from alumnus Richard Kurjan (MA'82), who wished to name the Center after his longtime mentor and friend. It ensures that Dr. Schulte and his legacy will continue to be honored for his visionary leadership.

🌟 By founding the Center (which became his life’s work alongside teaching), co-founding the American Literary Translators Association (ALTA), and launching Translation Review, Dr. Schulte has made immeasurable contributions to the field, both within and beyond the University of Texas at Dallas.👏
