Join us at the Black History Museum & Cultural Center of Virginia for a special conversation, “Why Richmond: The Story Behind Run Richmond 16.19.”

Ahead of the five-year anniversary of Run Richmond 16.19, Mayor Danny Avula, Dr. Sesha Joi Moon and Djimon Hounsou will join moderator Shakia Guillette Warren to explore why the event is rooted in Richmond, the city’s connection to the Black experience, and how understanding our shared history can create space for connection and a more inclusive future.

The JXN Project invites you to join two-time Oscar nominee and humanitarian Djimon Hounsou in conversation with our co-founder, Dr. Sesha Joi Moon, for a special screening of VPM’s “Declarations: Black Americans and The Revolutionary War” on PBS on Sunday, September 13 at 12pm at the Virginia Museum of History and Culture as part of Run Richmond 16.19. The screening will close out the race experience weekend, which includes a run/walk with 8K and 16K options, on Saturday, September 12 at 8am in Abner Clay Park.

The special screening is presented by VPM and the Djimon Hounsou Foundation in collaboration with VA250 Freedom Forward — an initiative that centers the Black experience in the telling of the nation’s history. Tickets and race registration are available at runrichmond16.19.org!

The JXN Project would like to thank the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival for hosting a screening of VPM’s “Declarations: Black Americans and The Revolutionary War” on PBS in partnership with The Ancestors’ Wildest Dreams. The highlight of the festival was having the film’s director, Stacey Holman, and subject, Dr. Sesha Joi Moon, invited to sit for a portrait session by The Cut and The Tyler Twins for a feature on “Honoring Black Cinema at the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival”. In 2024, Terrance “Pusha T” Thornton, Nathanial “Famlay” Johnson, and Antonio Dowe founded Cousinz Festival, which is a 2-day experience to connect community, culture, and commerce through the arts in the heart of Norfolk, Virginia — and The JXN Project is proud to help extend the experience to curriculum.

JXN maintains $300K in endowed scholarship funds at Virginia State University, Virginia Union University, Virginia Commonwealth University, Norfolk State University, and Richmond Public Schools and is proud to present $5K in scholarships to students attending Virginia HBCUs in partnership with Famlay’s Hold The Door Foundation — alongside a moderated discussion on “Empower to Engage” with JXN Co-Founder Dr. Sesha Joi Moon at CousinzCon. We are close to one month away from Run Richmond 16.19 and The JXN Project invites you to join us as we run with Team BHMVA. The race begins in Abner Clay Park in Jackson Ward on September 12, 2026 with registration ranging between $60-$102. Also, please join JXN, VPM, and PBS for a special screening of “Declarations: Black Americans and The Revolutionary War” in partnership with the Djimon Hounsou Foundation on September 13, 2026 at the Virginia Museum of History and Culture. Tickets on sale soon and training courses are available with We Off The Couch and Black Girls Run, which is headquartered in Richmond, VA!

The JXN Project would like to thank VPM’s Metta Bastet, who served as a camera operator with VPM’s “Declarations: Black Americans and The Revolutionary War” on PBS, for creating this heartfelt tribute to Dr. Sylvia Bugg on behalf of the project — the outpouring of condolences across the public media and historic preservation landscape is a true testament to her lasting impact at just 55 years young.
