Last week in Poconos, PA the Mid-Atlantic Association Of Forensic Science (MAAFS) partnered with Northeastern Association of Forensic Scientists (NEAFS) for a joint annual meeting!

Two VCU Students presented their work at the meeting, Kayla Nichols (MS student) and Savannah Koontz (MS alumni, 2026). Dr. Michelle Peace also presented in a workshop. Additionally, Kayla Nichols won a scholarship and Dr. Cathey Connon (faculty) won a professional development award - they were recognized during the business meeting.

Sarah Seashols-Williams, Ph.D., (Forensic Science), will be the inaugural fellow for research and scholarship. Dr. Seashols-Williams will be working with the CHS research team to look over key research and scholarship policies, as well as bridging the gap to facilitate research collaboration. 🖤💛🐏

Last day of National Forensic Science week! We’ve had so much fun this week.

Here is a quick reel of the VCU Forensic Science Microscopy class, taught by Professor Hazelrigg. The class topic was bullet comparison and identification. This class shows the importance of using microscopes to help identify characteristics of bullets/shell casings discharged from fi****ms.
