Hey everyone,
Ramthon is around the corner and we still need to raise money for Alex!
In life, we cannot help the cards we are dealt. Sometimes, the people dealt with a less fortunate hand are some of the most amazing humans. A certain soul of this nature is Alex. Fortunately, Alex has never been one to give up, and also is our sponsor for this year’s RamTHON. We are doing everything we can to help him, you can as well by donating through out RamTHON team page. Alex’s story is one of triumph, he continues to fight every day. Read it for yourself.
In February 2016, nine-year-old Alex was experiencing severe stomach pain and high fever. As a trained nurse, Alex’s mom, Sylvia, feared appendicitis. When the radiology tech at their local emergency room came back with Alex’s CT scan results, they were immediately referred to Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU (CHoR), where he was diagnosed with an esophageal duplication cyst, a rare inherited lesion that had formed while in utero.
Alex needed surgery to remove the cyst. He was vomiting up to three times a week after meals and the cyst had grown aggressively, from 1.5 centimeters in February to 3 centimeters in April. They later learned the cyst was also pressing directly on Alex’s aorta.
Back to school a week after surgery and to the soccer field in three, Alex recovered remarkably well. Today, he visits CHoR every six months for an ultrasound and a yearly MRI, and is back to focusing on the important things like playing soccer, baking, and spending time with family.
As you can see, Alex is a fighter. We have been supporting Alex over the years, please help us continue doing so by clicking the link below and clicking "Support Us"!
