πŸ… In March, a group of green Spiders braved the cold to take a walk to the St. Stephen's Farmer's Market, just about a mile from campus. There, they found lots of fresh produce, homemade goods, and delicious food.

πŸ™Œ Thanks to Ava Carpenter and Claire Wiley, the Office for Sustainability Engagement Interns, for leading this awesome opportunity, and to everyone who joined for this trip to support local farmers and vendors! πŸ’š

Sustainability is becoming a part of every classroom: English, biology, economics, the arts, law, business. Professors from across disciplines are finding new ways to incorporate sustainability concepts into their class syllabi.

Support Sustainability on Giving Day to help us continue integrating sustainability topics into the classroom through collaboration. Help us to cultivate a campus that sees all disciplines as a part of the same system working to protect the health of our planet Earth.

This Giving Day, join a tradition of transformation!

πŸ’ͺ Over the past 18 months, volunteers have contributed more than 800 hours to drive major transformations in the Eco-Corridor. 🌳 We’ve planted native trees, established a community orchard and food forest, and are embarking on the creation of a "Farmette" to supply students with hyperlocal produce.

πŸ’š Please donate during Giving Day so that we may continue to care for our Spider volunteers, who help maintain UR's beautiful natural environment, including the flora and fauna that thrive on campus. Many of the projects these volunteers work on also provide immeasurable positive benefits to the UR and Richmond community alike.

🌿 Thanks to your donations last year, we were able to add several new chairs and benches to the Eco-Corridor. Our dedicated volunteers helped us assemble outdoor furniture made from recycled materials. You can find them along the Eco-Corridor, allowing visitors a place of rest and restoration. Please help us keep this wonderful tradition going! You can find a link to donate through our Giving Day site: https://www.givecampus.com/schools/UniversityofRichmond/ur-here-giving-day/pages/student-experience/sustainability?campaign_view=true

And thanks to Zach Sussman '10, every $1 you give unlocks $2 in matching funds up to $1,000! Thank you, Zach!

The Rethink Waste Department has been a complete game-changer at UR. They have accomplished impressive waste diversion victories on a national levelπŸ’ͺ, an ever-expanding campus composting programπŸ₯¬, and the establishment of creative recycling streams♻️. Rethink Waste is a dynamic force that still has plans for greater growth and integration.

Please donate during Giving Day so that we may continue to reduce our waste footprint on campus through outreach, education, collaboration, and innovation: https://www.givecampus.com/schools/UniversityofRichmond/ur-here-giving-day/pages/student-experience/sustainability?campaign_view=true

πŸ™Œ How could your support help? The Spider Exchange could use a facelift! Your investment means adding much needed improvements to our free campus thrift store. The Spider Exchange is used by students, faculty, and staff and has tremendously reduced our waste footprint while giving students a free way to β€œshop” for clothes, school supplies, and more. Please help us keep this space fully stocked and organized by supporting us on Giving Day. πŸ’š

Incredible growth in our campus’s natural areas has truly changed the look and feel of the campus. Over the past year, the Eco-Corridor has been bustling with both wildlife and volunteers, all of whom find refuge and joy in this unique space at UR.

Since 2023, we’ve established a UR Orchard & Food Forest, a dynamic volunteer program, and a small farming plot that will be used to provide food for Dining Services. These exciting new developments are all thanks to generous donors who have seen the abundant potential that is embedded in the Eco-Corridor.
