ALERT: a new federal proposal could put the tax exempt status of private nonprofit colleges at risk for certain race based policies and programs, potentially affecting thousands of institutions nationwide.

Tim Powers of NAICU, Virginia Private Colleges’ federal advocacy partner, highlighted an important concern: “the proposed rule may create new compliance burdens and legal uncertainties” for colleges already operating under existing nondiscrimination requirements.

Virginia’s private colleges are committed to complying with federal civil rights laws while preserving their ability to serve students consistent with their missions. CICV will continue working closely with NAICU as this proposal moves forward.

It’s a significant escalation in Trump’s campaign to eradicate programs that help minority students.

Virginia Private Colleges President Chris Peace met with new University of Lynchburg President Sally Coleman Selden this week as she begins an exciting chapter of university leadership.

University of Lynchburg is celebrating strong momentum, including a 20% increase in undergraduate enrollment and its largest incoming class since 2018, while continuing to lead in advancing pluralism initiatives through meaningful campus dialogues.

Virginia Works and Marymount University are co-hosing a career fair for veterans, transitioning military professionals and military spouses on September 16th.

Besides offering some career coaching and job market navigation tips, 25 major employers will be on site, all of them with open positions that they hope to fill.

ICYMI: The Common App’s Direct Admissions program allows more than 230 colleges and universities to offer preemptive admission to first-generation college students and those from low-income families.

More than a dozen new Virginia colleges and universities joined the program this year including the non profit private institutions:
