Omega Alpha Alumni Election Meeting
Meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m.
Reason for the meeting: Calling for a new election as we have been stagnant since the last election, no bills have been paid for a couple years (insurance being the fees we owe), we did not have alumni board representation at convention, and we couldn’t have voted.
As such, during the fall, a few alumni agreed we saw a need to have a new election and suggested we have one because our association has been essentially inactive for over a year. Our October meeting failed because we had internet connection issues, and this new date was established to take place following undergraduate elections in late November.
In the discussion, before we elected anyone, we voted to establish and annual election, which we have not had. Our next election will be mid-October, TBD. This will act as either a vote of confidence in our alumni leadership, or if there are those who want to challenge for positions, they may. Therefore, there is always an opportunity for new leadership, meaning positions are not permanent but someone could be re-elected by the body. We’ll establish a term limit of 12 years such as the National Board has.
Not all of our nominated people could make the meeting, therefore, by affirmation of those present, the only alumnus nominated for President will serve as Interim President and appoint some of the other officers from nominations and convene meetings to address any new by-laws needed. The current Treasurer will be holding his spot (also as an interim) until such time as we have someone interested in the role.
There were 4 current nominees: Matt Tessier for President, Chandler Garrison for VP, Joey Craft to remain as Interim Treasurer, Chris Olsen for Alumni Affairs, and Alumni Advisor Daryl Williams to be Ex-Officio member of the board or to be Secretary while keeping us well informed about the undergraduate chapter.
We will establish a calendar of goals and action plans with this board that gets us on track financially (we owe $1200 for insurance and will owe $600 this year) which also regains our vote at the convention. We need to build relationships through specific annual events and more casual events, building of our two scholarships with fund raising events, and create networking opportunities for the undergraduates and alumni. We have great alumni, but many are not involved, many don’t know why they should be and need to see some value in doing so. Reggie Davenport will be doing a google survey to update contact information and we’ll establish class ambassadors to get in touch and recruit alumni back into the fold.
We will call on the appointed alumni committee to meet January 8th at a time to be determined. All alumni should return the survey and update their information.
The meeting concluded at approximately 7:35 pm.
