A special moment for our Direct Entry Master of Science in Nursing (DE-MSN) students as they celebrated their very first Stethoscope Ceremony at Bon Secours Memorial College of Nursing!

With family, friends and faculty cheering them on, students received their stethoscopes and took part in a meaningful candlelight ceremony, symbolizing the compassion, dedication and commitment that will guide them throughout their nursing careers.

From proud smiles to heartfelt celebrations, the day was a reminder that becoming a nurse is about more than earning a degree. It’s about answering a call to care for others.

Congratulations to our DE-MSN students on this exciting milestone! The journey is just beginning, and we can’t wait to see the difference you’ll make. 💙

Behind every scholarship is someone saying, “We believe in you.” 💙

Students, donors and members of our Bon Secours community recently came together for the Bon Secours Memorial College of Nursing Scholarship Reception, celebrating the 2026–2027 scholarship recipients and the generosity helping make their nursing education possible.

This year, Foundation-supported scholarship opportunities grew from 42 to 46, creating even more opportunities for students to focus on their education, clinical experiences and the calling that brought them to nursing.

Dr. Chrissie Perkins reflected on that “Call to Serve,” while Sister Fran Gorsuch, CBS, helped make the evening even more memorable with a heartfelt prayer and a few laughs.

To the donors who continue to invest in our students, thank you. Your generosity is helping prepare the next generation of nurses who will care for patients, strengthen our communities and carry forward the healing Mission of Bon Secours.

And to our scholarship recipients, congratulations. We are proud of you and excited for everything ahead. 💙

Leadership in health care starts long before graduation. 💙

On Sept. 28, student leaders from across the Bon Secours Richmond Higher Education Institutions came together at Memorial Regional Medical Center for the 2026 Student Leader Summit.

The summit gave students an opportunity to step outside of the classroom, connect with one another and explore what leadership looks like within the larger Bon Secours community. Throughout the day, students took part in conversations and activities focused on leadership, service, professional growth and the role they can play in strengthening the communities around them.

It was also an opportunity to see how their education connects to something bigger. Our students are not only preparing for careers in health care. They are becoming future professionals and leaders who will carry the Bon Secours Mission and Values forward through the way they serve, collaborate and care for others.

We are proud of the students who continue to step forward, get involved and help shape the student experience across our higher education institutions.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s Student Leader Summit possible and invested their time in the next generation of health care leaders. 💙

🌸 A reminder of what all the hard work is building toward.

A few weeks ago, Anne Boring of Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital’s Intermediate Care Unit received the Carnation Caregiver Award after a patient recognized the compassion, presence and support she provided during their care.

“The moment I met Anne, she instantly showed care and compassion. She saw the look on my face and asked, ‘What can I do to help you feel better?’”

Anne stayed by the patient’s side, helped them navigate the unit and supported their family before discharge, providing comfort and reassurance when it mattered most.

For our Richmond Higher Education Institutions students deep into classes, labs, clinicals and long study days, moments like this are a reminder of what all that work is leading toward.

The knowledge you’re building, the skills you’re practicing and the compassion you bring into every interaction matter. Moments like Anne’s are a reminder that the care you provide can leave a lasting impact and be recognized by the people you serve.

Congratulations, Anne, on this well-deserved recognition and thank you for showing our future health care professionals what compassionate care looks like in action. 💙

Hispanic Heritage Month begins today!

From Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, we recognize the rich cultures, histories and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities.

Throughout the month, members of our Richmond Higher Education Institutions community will share what their heritage means to them and the traditions, experiences and connections that have shaped who they are.

We are grateful for the voices and stories that strengthen our community and reflect our shared values of compassion, human dignity and respect.

25 years later, we remember those we lost, honor the heroes and hold their families in our hearts.

As we mark the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, we offer this prayer of remembrance, comfort and hope.

God of Peace and Mercy,
Today we remember those who lost their lives at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and in Pennsylvania. We lift up their families and loved ones, asking for your comfort and peace.
We thank you for the courage of the first responders and all who selflessly helped others in a time of great need. May their example inspire us to live with bravery, compassion and kindness.
Replace hatred with love, fear with faith and division with unity. Help us be instruments of your peace and shine your light in a world that needs hope.

This Labor Day, we’re recognizing the faculty, staff and health care professionals who put their knowledge, skill and heart to work every day, along with the students preparing to follow in their footsteps.

Across Bon Secours Richmond Higher Education Institutions, that work can look like teaching at the bedside, practicing a new skill, mentoring a student or preparing for the next step in a health care career.

A new tradition. The beginning of an incredible journey. 🩺💙

Bon Secours Memorial College of Nursing celebrated its first-ever Stethoscope Ceremony, marking an important first step for our students as they begin their journey toward becoming nurses.

Surrounded by classmates, faculty, family and friends, students received their stethoscopes as a symbol of the compassion, responsibility and purpose they will carry with them throughout their nursing education and into the profession.

This is only the beginning, and we cannot wait to see where their journeys take them.
