A first-year faculty member. A lasting impact.

Congratulations to Donna Johnson, MSN-Ed, RN, assistant professor at Bon Secours Memorial College of Nursing and this year’s DAISY Faculty Award honoree!

Donna joined BSMCON last August and has already made a powerful impression on her students, colleagues and the College community. Her nomination described her as an instructor whose feedback helps students become stronger, safer and more capable nurses, while modeling compassionate, patient-centered care.

Her nomination was reviewed by a Mission Leader, last year’s DAISY Faculty Award winner and a student representative, and all three ranked it as their top choice.

Please join us in congratulating Donna on this well-deserved honor!

Simulation Spotlight!!

The RHEI Clinical Simulation & Learning Center at Bon Secours supports learners across multiple campuses through high‑fidelity, virtual, and standardized patient simulation experiences. Each campus features a dedicated simulation hospital designed to mirror an inpatient care unit, with four simulation rooms that enhance realism and allow for multi‑patient scenarios and up to four simulations to be conducted simultaneously. The center also maintains a robust Standardized Patient program, with more than thirty trained SPs supporting a wide range of learning experiences. Initially accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) as a single site in 2021, the program has grown significantly and achieved full SSH accreditation as a multisite center in May 2026.

We’re also proud to have simulationists and leaders from the RHEI Clinical Simulation & Learning Center represented within the VASSA community and at the VASSA 2026 Conference as we continue advancing simulation education across Virginia together.

Our SPs went for gold. 🥇

This year’s Standardized Patient Appreciation Luncheon brought the RHEI Clinical Simulation & Learning Center together to celebrate the people who make practice feel real for our students.

From patient scenarios to provider, chaplain and family member roles, our standardized patients help our students build confidence before stepping into real patient care.

To our SPs, faculty and CSLC team: Thank you for showing up with heart, realism and gold-medal dedication.

Students and faculty, help us thank our SPs in the comments.

Service looks good on our students 🌱

Students from Bon Secours Memorial College of Nursing and Southside College of Health Sciences came together through Students in Service to volunteer with ShineForth.

From planting and landscaping to working side by side, they helped care for spaces that support the local community while showing the compassion, teamwork and heart that define health care.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the day so meaningful.

Before Nurses Week ends, we need to thank the people helping shape its future.

There is no future of nursing to celebrate without the faculty who teach, guide and believe in our students every day. Your patience, expertise and care help turn hard work into confidence, and confidence into the nurses our communities will count on.

Happy Nurses Week to our CON and Southside faculty. Thank you for making all of this possible.

Before you can care for others, you have to care for yourself.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and we are proud to welcome Dr. Angela Charlton, our new mental health counselor.

As we celebrate Nurses Week, this is a meaningful reminder that support, connection and care matter for our students too.

Students can schedule an appointment with Dr. Charlton here: https://bookings.cloud.microsoft/bookwithme/user/eee24e9651164ad48ed7bafe3babd928%40bshsi.org?anonymous&ismsaljsauthenabled=true

Nurses Week has us looking back at the moments that made 2025 so special.

From first hellos and white coats to service, study abroad, celebrations, graduation and everything in between, these memories remind us what nursing is built on: compassion, commitment, community and the people who choose to show up for others every day.

To our students, alumni, faculty and nurses, thank you for making 2025 a year worth remembering.

Happy Nurses Week. 💙

Behind every student journey is someone helping guide the way.

This Global Advising Week, we are proud to celebrate our Student Success advisors and the meaningful impact they make across our campuses.

Academic advising is more than helping students plan their next semester. It is thoughtful guidance, steady encouragement, holistic support, and care that helps students move forward with confidence.

Please join us in thanking Dr. Tori Keel, Erica Stubblefield, Leslie Keen, Mackenzie Hary, and Timara Tyler for the dedication, knowledge, and heart they share with our students each day.
