At our 4th Annual Convocation, “Reflecting on our Journey, Advancing our Purpose,” the School of Pharmacy community gathered to hear from keynote speaker Arturo Saavedra, M.D., Ph.D., M.B.A., with insights from his new role as VCU’s provost and executive vice president and lessons from his life and career at the intersection of medicine and academia, the crossroads of patient care and education.

Saavedra called upon the school’s newest Pharm.D., graduate and undergraduate students to think about "the problem that you can't stand" and become a part of solving it.

In addition to our faculty who earned promotions – Jiong Li, Ph.D., Apryl Peddi, Pharm.D., and Erin Zacholski, Pharm.D. –, seven individuals were recognized at Convocation with awards:

Exceptional Customer Service Award: Chris Garland
Executive Award for Staff Advocacy: Mary Kate Brogan
Emerging Faculty Scholar Award: Sarah E. Wheeler, Pharm.D.
Excellence in Research Award: Malgorzata Dukat, Ph.D.
Excellence in Service Award: John Bucheit, Pharm.D.
Bertha Rolfe Outstanding Staff Award: Nicholas R. Garcia II, Ph.D.
