Communication Sciences and Disorders Program at Eastern Kentucky University The Eastern Kentucky University Communication Sciences and Disorders Program, preparing future speech-language pathologists and audiologists.

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Eastern Kentucky University is dedicated to preparing highly qualified and ethical professionals to provide effective, evidence-based speech-language pathology and audiology services to persons of all ages and diverse backgrounds with communication and swallowing disorders. Established in 1969, the Communication Disorders program was one o

f the first programs in the Special Education Department at EKU. Graduates also have the opportunity to participate in the Interdisciplinary Autism Spectrum Disorder Certificate. The CD Program offers both an undergraduate B.S. and a graduate M.A. in Communication Disorders. The Master of Arts (MA) education program in Speech-Language Pathology at Eastern Kentucky University is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

CSD Associate Professor, Dr. Charlie Hughes, was selected as one of this year’s members of EKU’s Provost Faculty Internship program.
This program provides executive leadership training for professors and seeks to foster higher-education leadership skills.

Dr. Hughes will be focusing on faculty teaching support, mainly by developing an “open classroom” model here at EKU. In this model, course instructors can open their classrooms to colleagues to observe a variety of teaching and learning strategies. He is excited to lean into this project during the ’26-’27 academic year.
