" I first read this novel as a young teenager. I have read it several times over the years, especially when I have felt nostalgic for the familiar landscapes of my upbringing. I love this book because it invites me to remember that in Latin America and the Caribbean, we make sense of our lives and the conflicts within them at the intersection of the fantastic and the realistic, both woven into the fabric of daily life."
