Richmond Animal Law Society had another successful week! Thank you to everyone that came out to support us at Bingo Beer Co. on Sunday for our Barkade fundraiser for VAFTF. We were able to raise over $600 for a great cause! And major kudos to ALS VP Sarah Hornberger for organizing and pulling off an amazing CLE yesterday, Select Topics in Employment & Labor Law. We had a great turnout despite the bad weather and raised an additional $175 for VAFTF. This was our second year providing a CLE opportunity for local attorneys and anyone who has been through the process of getting accredited for CLEs knows how incredibly difficult it can be. Thank you, Sarah, for your dedication to this organization! Lastly, congratulations to our graduating board members Sarah Hornberger and Rachel Snead and congratulations to our new President and Vice President, Annie Mullican and Elizabeth Dodson.

Animal Law Society + Criminal Law Society + Richmond Police Department Canine Unit

We had a wonderful talk and demonstration about what dog sniffs are, the limits on them by the Supreme Court/Constution, and a demonstration from Officer Kaiya (dog). Thanks to Professors Lain and Crane and the Richmond PD.

Last week, we were privileged to have Professors Corinna Lain and Paul Crane speak about the current constitutionality of police dog sniffs. Our special guests were Sergeant Hannah, Officer Mullins, and Officer Kaiya (Doggie) of the Richmond Police Department's K9 Unit, and they explained their everyday jobs and gave a demonstration as to Kaiya's drug sniffing skills. You can watch the talk via this link!

Hi, Animal Law Friends! Thanks to the hurricane, our interest meeting for students/faculty/staff has been moved to Wednesday, September 19, at 4pm in the Carle E. Davis Commons. Don't worry, there will still be cupcakes.

In the meantime, check out Richmond Animal Care and Control's page to see how you can help our local shelter prepare for the storm. Don't forget about your own pets and being prepared with them! Make sure you have the essentials to keep them safe and secure while it's storming.

We need large dog crates, tarps and used blankets or towels-can you help? Hurricane Florence may impact Richmond and we want to make sure our residents (and pets) are ready. RACC is preparing to accommodate stray pets that need shelter from the storm as well as providing supplies to citizens in an effort to keep their pets housed safely at home and out of our shelter. Please check out this great reference to prepare your own house for Ms. Florence:)
