Virginia Union University is going global in science and discovery. (Don’t sleep on the School of Arts and Sciences :)
Dr. Francis E. Mensah, Chair and Associate Professor of Natural Sciences, and Kingston Blackburn, a Physics and Engineering major and Science Engineering Summer Institute student, are representing VUU aboard the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration ship Pisces as part of the 2026 Aerosols and Ocean Science Expeditions, known as AEROSE.
Their research will focus on ocean and atmospheric science across the Atlantic, including the study of Saharan mineral dust particles and African air mass outflows and their impact on climate, weather, and environmental health.
This hands-on research opportunity reflects VUU’s commitment to academic excellence, experiential learning, global exploration, and preparing students for careers in STEM and scientific discovery.
Follow VUU and VUEN as we share updates from their journey abroad and highlight the power of HBCU scholarship on a global stage.
