High school juniors & seniors in the KR Scholars program visited VUU yesterday!
We were thrilled to show them the art gallery in the library, the Mass Comm Podcast Studio, & the science labs. VUU STEM program assistants provided a panel and the high school students asked such great questions!!

Many people would write these students off.
Not us at VUU. And speaking as the dean and life-long educator, You could NEVER make me believe that students can’t rise to excellence. They can and they DO!

I cannot even tell you how great this event was. I just love LOVE seeing the VUU bus turn the corner on its way to the Oasis Youth Farm 💚. Classroom is not just 4 walls- it’s wherever learning happens (and just to see their beautiful faces outside is priceless).

We may not have all that we need but we have people with heart and a passion for community. Huge thanks to my partner in the work tyronepowercherry who opens his heart, his work and the farm to us over and over again. This is the work !

Let me tell you— the last 2 weeks were…a lot getting ready for commencement. But today - talking to elders with VUU students present during Councilor Nicole Jones’ The Art of Memory event was a great ending.

( I am SO impressed with students.The school year ended and they should be in full summer mode but guess what ?!! They came out to participate!!! )🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽 and to see them talking so freely with elders - whew - that will make your ❤️sing. Mine did )

Thanks Councilor Jones Nicole Jones and Mayor Avula for making the students welcome and for seeing them )

DNA extraction for Earth Day was 🔥. Huge thanks to Dr.Ruffin for helping to plan the VUU School of Arts and Sciences Earth Day 🌍celebration! 🙌🏽🙌🏽
