Meet Jared Taylor - our Dean of Student Services! Jared began his teaching career in 2009 with the Ohio Department of Youth Services where he developed a strong foundation in supporting students with diverse academic and behavioral needs. He joined the Buckeye Hills Career Center team in 2011, and has been proud to serve our district in a variety of roles since that time.

He spent seven years as an Intervention Specialist in our special education consortium. He later served three years as an Intervention Specialist in the Transportation Academy, helping students connect their academic instruction to meaningful career pathways. After his time in the classroom, he served two years as Assistant Dean before stepping into his current role as Dean of Student Services, where he has served for the past three years.

“The greatest joy in my work as Dean is witnessing the growth and development of our students over their two- to three-year journey at Buckeye Hills,” he said. “Each year, I am amazed by how much our students grow — not only academically and technically, but personally — as they transition into adulthood. Buckeye Hills’ whole-child approach makes this growth possible, and it is incredibly rewarding to see students develop in all areas as they prepare for life beyond high school.”

Fun Fact about Jared - He enjoys both road biking and mountain biking in his free time!

✨👏 We are grateful for Jared and the care and guidance he provides as he helps students overcome challenges and reach their full potential!

📚✨From Career Tech to Storytime: SkillsUSA Students Encourage Big Dreams Through Books

Members of the SkillsUSA Community Service Team at Buckeye Hills Career Center recently completed a literacy and career exploration project titled Little Champions, Big Dreams: Exploring Careers Through Books.

Students partnered with Dolly Parton's Imagination Library and met with the Southeast Ohio Regional Director to learn effective strategies for reading to preschool-aged children and keeping young learners engaged.

SkillsUSA members then visited several libraries and a daycare to lead interactive storytime sessions and share information about free literacy resources with families. Locations included Oak Hill Public Library, Jackson City Library, Dr. Samuel L. Bossard Memorial Library, Herbert Wescoat Memorial Library, Sylvester Memorial Public Library, and Little Buckeyes Early Learning Center.

Through this project, students encouraged a love of reading among young learners while also building their own leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.

Meet Ellen McCabe - our Dean of Partnerships! After 25 years in business, Ellen decided to alter her life course and become an educator. In 2004, she began teaching at Wellston High School and after eleven years, came to Buckeye Hills as Ohio’s first Career Advisor. Ellen moved into administration as the Dean of Partnerships in 2019, a position she still holds.

“The most rewarding part of being the Dean of Partnerships is that I can share the possibilities that career technical education offers to students in our partner schools in Gallia, Jackson, and Vinton Counties,” she said. “That means thousands of students become aware of great paying careers that they can achieve, without incurring the expense of college debt.”

When asked for a fun fact about herself, she shared, “I am proud to have been on ESPN and featured in People Magazine, but it is my husband, children, and seven grandchildren that keep my life busy, exciting, and enjoyable.”

✨👏 We are grateful for Ellen and her commitment to helping students in our communities discover rewarding career pathways through career technical education!
