University Business Collaboration Center will host the second guest speaker in the 2026-2027 Innovators Speaker Series Tuesday, October 27. Kim Peterson, founder and CEO of KPT Collaborative, will speak at 6 p.m. in room 194 of the Science and Technology Innovation Center (SciTech), 262 E. Cascade Ave.

Kim will talk about her journey from a successful career in the corporate mortgage industry in Chicago to the creation of something entirely new for the St. Croix Valley that builds businesses and grows community.

A public reception will follow a Q&A session at 7 p.m. The reception will feature cheeses and meats made on campus by students and available at Freddy's Dairy Bar.

It's a beautiful time to walk around campus! While on a stroll through campus, you probably have seen this structure on the Kleinpell Fine Arts building. Have you ever wondered what this is? Is it art or something else? Believe it or not, it is a working sundial!

The Richard D. Swensen Sundial was named for Richard D. Swensen, a distinguished scientist, educator, and community leader whose career spanned decades, marked by academic leadership, international collaboration, and lasting local and institutional legacies. He was a beloved faculty member of the Chemistry and Physics departments before becoming the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences of UWRF from 1969 to 1988, returning to instruction prior to retiring in 1993.

The sundial on the Kleinpell Fine Arts (KFA) building was designed by faculty emeriti John Shepherd. Find it on the outside south wall of KFA, located on Cascade Avenue just west of Centennial Science Hall. It faces the University Center along the main east-west walkway through the center of campus. This sundial is one of the largest and most accurate vertical-faced sundial in North America!

The UW-River Falls Music and Stage and Screen Arts Department is proud to present a concert featuring the UWRF Jazz Ensemble on Saturday, October 17th at 7:00pm in the Abbott Concert Hall in KFA. Attendees are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance to reserve seats (and avoid waiting in line at the Box Office). For those purchasing tickets in person, the Box Office will open 45 minutes prior to start of the performance.

The new biology greenhouse connected to the Science and Technology Innovation Center (SciTech) has a new name. UWRF held a dedication ceremony Oct. 2, officially naming the facility the Sandra Bowen Biology Greenhouse in honor of Bowen, a longtime local biology and botany teacher. On Friday the Chemistry Department welcomed back three alumni, Becca Iverson, Cordell Schrank, and Aaron Taylor. They were invited to talk to current students about their experiences at , share what they wished they knew as students, and discuss their careers post-graduation.
Becca Iverson (2021) is a Research Specialist at Diasorin.
Cordell Schrank (2020) and Aaron Taylor (2011) are Scientists at Kindeva Drug Delivery.

Congratulations to Dr. Francis Halzen on this extraordinary and well-deserved recognition!
As the world celebrates the impact of IceCube and its contributions to our understanding of the universe, we at are proud of our long-standing connections to this groundbreaking work. Those connections include retired UWRF physics professors Jim Madsen, former Associate Director for Education and Outreach at WIPAC, and retired UWRF physics professor Rellen Hardtke, a student of Francis Halzen. They continue today through current physics professors Glenn Spiczak and Suruj Seunarine.
Many UWRF undergraduate students have contributed to IceCube research over the years, with several traveling to the South Pole to support this groundbreaking scientific endeavor firsthand.
